I've done 2 tranny/clutch swaps in the last 2 weeks. I found a new machine shop just up the road to have the flywheels turned (I take in a spare ahead of time), old place behind a house, you know the type. The first one was no problem, driving it now, works fine. When I dropped the second one off, he looked at it and said I probably shouldn't use it, as it had been turned before (could tell by the scalloped ridges still visible in the outer face). He said that after turning them more than once or twice, the slave won't be able to reach, and shifting will be difficult, especially going into 1st at a stop. I had him do it anyway, it's installed now and works fine.

But I guess it kinda sorta does make sense. I've never come across this before, is there a minimum thickness spec somewhere?

I was also thinking that if it was too thin and wouldn't work any more, you could fix it by sticking a washer under the pivot post inside the bellhousing, to make it stick out a little more. Wondering if this would work...

i know that is the one i have so how do you know when to stop turning it. with no specs not to mention if you turn it and it warps the damage that could do. so what is the specs on the thickness of a flywheel off of a toyota.

I checked my '86 FSM, can't find anything. I also looked all over one of my spare flywheels, I can't find anything.

Sounds like a question for Marlin. If anybody will know, he will.

I have no tech to add here, but since I've been saving this up for this long I should get it out of my system and at least hopefully make you guys laugh..

I don't know, but here's what makes sense to me; I would think you could do a clean-up pass on the flywheel (for flat surface) without a problem because the only change is that the clutch disc will ride on a slightly different spot on the input shaft splines (no biggie), and the slave cylinder might need a slight adjustment (another no biggie)????

That was no help at all.

I gotta order a couple small things from Marlin soon, I'll try to remember to ask.
