How do you torque???

As wampuskat stated check or have your wrench checked.
I rebuilt my 22r using a craftsman 3/8 digitorque and had a leaking head gasket 5-6 months later. Blamed it on the aftermarket gasket but when tearing it down all the head bolts are not tight enough. So now I am blaming it on stretched head bolts, got new toy head bolts and I am putting it back together but I am bothered by the fact these are heavy bolts to be stretching. Had an electronic torque wrench setting under the x-mas tree for my son so I unwrapped his wrench to see what it said compared to my old craftsman. Had the head bolts torqued to 56 ftp(if I remember correctly) and the electronic wrench needed 50.5 ftp to tighten them more. To find which wrench was correct I put the wrenchs in my press and hung different weights on them. The electronic one was always correct and the craftsman was progressively off - the higher the torque value the more it was off. Pulled the pan and all the mains were just below the min torque but the lowers were fine.
We had a big laugh that my sons new torque smelled of oil.

Toyota tends to state if they are TTY bolts - the stretch. If they aren't TTY (as in, they have a torque value then multiple steps at various degrees) then they aren't bolts that stretched.

I've built several 4age's and a couple one off hybrid 7age's and I've always reused bolts. I also tore the head from a 22r and reused the bolts without issue.
