Looks like it means they have already written off your mileage as irrelevent. ;)

Then Im going to irrelevently take Ole Waggoneer up on his offer and roll her back to the drive train mileage....:grinpimp:

LOL Might pay to roll back your sig line also.

The only thing left of the original truck is the bloody frame. Youre telling me it would be dishonest to have the odometer accurately reflect the engine, tranmission, tcase, axles and tub's history and mileage?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Seems to me that reflecting MOST of the vehicle accurately is more honest than leaving the bloody frame in charge!

Sorry.

Here a car yard dealer could loose his license for winding it back and an ordinary person can be fined big dollars for it. It is considered improper for sure. If the truck has done x miles that is it, if it is rebuilt it has simply been rebuilt but has still done the same mileage. Why change it and delete part of it's history? It is considered dishonest here if thats a problem for you then so be it. cheers.

Just the frame is original (sand balsting doesn't "renew" a frame BTW)? None of the sheet metal? None of the door hinges, fabric, instruments, carpet. etc are original? Do all of the various parts you've changed have the same milage? If not which are you going to pick as your new OD reading? I think the OD should reflect the oldest part of the truck, not the newest.

If you don't intend to ever sell the rig then I say whatever. But if your asking becasue you intend to sell then your dabbling in fraud. Even if you don't think you'll sell now, you may change your mind someday.

BTW, the frame is what holds your rig together and knowing how many miles of road it's seen might be improtant to someone someday. It may not have any moving parts but it does cycle under stress when driving. Probably doesn't matter much but it makes you look crooked when you start explaing your OD to a potential buyer (assuming you tell them).

just do it hz60 guy,ive done it in oz to a 4x4 we still own,new motor box etc, reset to o so i know where its at,when we sell it i'll just tell them the story, people making a mountain out of a molehill here,i dont think you or i will end up in trouble, mine had been done buy the previous owner when i bought it,to lower thr miles,it wasnt working because they didnt put a small circlip back on properly,so i had to fix it anyway, bit fiddly but not too hard.
cheers goldchaser

Yep, I have to agree with goldchaser 100%. This isn't a big deal since there's no intent to defraud. If a future buyer has an issue you may or may not lose the buyer but that's about it. Is my odometer accurate? Nope, I run 31's which don't reflect correct readings on the speedo & odo. I think my experience is common among other here and we're not a band of thieves.

Do what you want, if it comes back to kick you in the *ss, deal.

When I noticed that the speedometer was off by ~10%, I suddenly realized that the odometer would also be off. Oh, no, the 60 I just bought might have 10% more miles than I thought it did  . . . Ah, well. It still runs pretty good. And my gas mileage went up. :)

im getting ready to replace my motor with a 134,000 mile motor from the 266.998 mile motor i got now. I got a line on another dash with 137,000 miles im gonna try to get so it matchs the motor.

I dont know about the rest of you ,but my odometer will only go to 99999.9 so how many times has it rolled over who knows...

I am in the process of "zeroing" mine right now. Only 400,000 Km to go and proud of it!

I think you are in touchy area as far as rolling the speedo back. You can replace the speedo and it can read whatever....as long as you don't represent those to be the miles of the vehicle. If you get in there with picks or whatever and start to screw with the milage then I think you potentially would be violating the law...but I'm no lawyer.

I swapped the cluster on this old "farm truck" I have and so it how has a different speedo and milage reading...but I bought the "junk" with milage unknown to start with, its a GM pickup.

As others have said ....as long as you don't represent the vehicle as having accurate milage then you might be ok, and I guess different states have different rules about tracking milage as the vehicle gets older.

hire ferris & cameron!!!!

unfortunately, an FJ/HJ is not as light as a '61 Ferrari 250 GT California...
x2 on the ferris bueller method. :hillbilly:

my .02... do whatver you want w/ engine, t-case & other replacement parts. there's also a 'cool factor' tied with cruisers w/ high miles - not many can brag having over 500,000 miles...or can they? :hhmm::hhmm: hmmm

just be honest if you're sellin the rig.
good luck!
