How do you clean your dog's teeth?

Actually we feed dry kibble and that does a pretty good job on it's own. They also chew on raw hides and sticks on a regular basis. Every now and then we throw them a corn cob. That probably works better than anything else. The seem to love it. Usually chew the entire thing up and eat it, but corn cobs seen to really clean the teeth well.
 
Let them do it. Then give a freshy to the empty mouthed dog. Pissed the hoarder off to no end. She'll spend the next 30 minutes either begging for a new bone or pacing around the other dog waiting to steal it. :D

get the dog put under and have ultrasonic de-scaling carried out. Knocks all the tater right off.

Hey, you're a vet so you probably know the answer - I was told never to do this with older animals because the tarter has something that, if swallowed in concentration, really hurts the animal. Anything to that?
