What is wrong with my hoodhooks? They won't reach my windshield when it is folded down without bending them. Are they installed correctly? I don't see any other way to install them.

i had the same issue... they're on correctly (for an older style hood).. but they are for the later style hood.. they dont make the old style hooks anymore.. what i did was just elongate the slots a likkle bit and it works great.. i'll go take a pic right now.

What do you mean by elongate the slots? Do you mean the slots on the window frame? Can you post some pictures? I had this same issue when I replaced mine last year.

i would suggest a dremmel tool.. i didn't have one so i used an angle grinder w a cutoff wheel which was a little too big but it did the trick.:hillbilly:

The slots are wrong. I had never had my windshield down till last summer. The fancy hood hooks I had put on it many years prior from Specter didn't work. I asked them about it and they said that those were the only hooks available, made for the newer models, and that is even what Toyota was selling also as a replacement. Really sucks, especially if those are chromed as they look in the photo, they will rust where you have to cut them.

The true original style ones are different. They are simply two ears that bolt to the hood, thus having more range of motion.

Whe I redid my truck 6 years ago, I ran into the same thing. I busted out the Dremmel tool and never looked back. All this time and they have yet to rust......:hmm:

CCOT has the 'later' style but with the larger slot, I got some for my truck couple weeks ago.

I am thinking about buying some from CCOT too. I would like to use the originals, but after calling around to plating shops it looks like it is cheaper to buy new ones already powder coated. For what they wanted to charge I can buy new matching hood and windshield latches too. They wanted $25 to $50 to do them. CCOT has hood latches and windshield latches for about $20 a pair.

You may want to ask on the ones from CCOT. I am having a problem with my hood hooks not reaching the side slots to latch the hood down.

Those are difrent hooks, these hold the windshield down, they are difrent. Could you have swaped them when you put them on with the windshield hold down ones? (totaly something I would do)
