I believe the correct name for the part of the hood that inserts into the main latch mechanism is called the hood striker? Anyways when I had the front end fire the FD guys that responded cut the striker off because my latch mechanism failed. (Latch and wire has since been replaced). I still have the piece that got cut off. Is it worth it to re weld the piece back on even if it’s pretty twisted? Or would it be smarter to buy a general aftermarket version that I can just screw in? Is screwing in an option with how thin that part of the hood is? Currently the only thing holding my hood from flying up is the secondary hook.

The latch, when latched, ends up inside of the hood cavity means that about the only thing you can do is try and repair it by welding it back together or something like that. If I had a hood coming, I'd probably go super ghetto and just bore a hole in the hood and strap it down until the new one arrives. That thing coming unlatched as speed would not be good.
