looks just fine with the scoop. Let it be.
Worry about the important stuff.

i think if you tried to make the scoop functional....cool........those wheels....not cool!!

what is your location? in the NE where salt spray is a problem or the south where we have a lot of water a functioning scoop may invite corrosion? I would never install one of those but it does not look that bad, I certainly would not pay big $ to get rid of it

where did you get the clear turn signals? looks good with the LX corner lights, would look better with the JDM ones

Looks ok - leave well enough alone. :D

I think it looks fine. It is definitely different, and that may be a good thing.

It's hard to really form an opinion, just based on a couple of pictures, but I think it may be worth keeping. Of course the only opinion that matters is yours. Keep it for a few months and see if it grows on you. You may get some gawks and decide you like it. (Get a snorkel and nobody will even notice the scoop!)

As for making it functional... what function does it need to do? If you have a defined need, start there. Otherwise I wouldn't go screwing with it.

My 2 cents.

I like it! And with the LX corner lenses, you're golden. Are the LX lens standard on the 40th Edition?

i would leave it alone - the worst thing you could do is to replace the hood, unless it was one from another truck the same exact color and the factory paint on it. any time you put replacement parts or paint something unneccessarily you're going to invariably have problems selling down the road cause of the inference of front end damage due to non-stock hood or paintwork.

i would also go back to the stock wheels, IMHO

just my $.02

now, :flipoff2:

I like it but not for its nonfunctionality or looks. I see it as a perfect spot for an intercooler for the turbo diesel I've been lusting after. Christo might be right about the air in with no place for air to go out. I suppose you could louver the inner rear fenderwells. A body lift would provide an exit for the air.

The tires are 315/70/17s from the H2 Hummer. They are a perfect fit as they are slightly shorter the the 315/75. I have already removed the scoop and tried to use it backwards to extract the hot air, but it won't cover the previous holes. So for now functional it is. As far as wheels go, I am looking for factory or aftermarket. I will know 'em when I see 'em type of thing. Thanks for all the comments + and -.

I saw this truck at our meeting tonight. It is beautiful and as clean an 80 as I've ever seen. PO managed to score a 40th emblem (like the one on the front quarters) and mounted it on the upper right of the tailgate...looks great.

Scoop is now functional and actually looks okay...as long as you can get over the non-OEM look of it.

The wheels look much better in person but will be replaced by OEM or aftermarket with the right look.

Anyway....awesome truck....low miles (60k range) and blemish free inside and out.

I didn't see this post back in July...I think I was on vacattion that week. Either that or my dog ate it.

Anyhoo...I see it's now functional. My suggestion was going to be that since Cristo indicates the problem is that it's an "air-in" scoop that wouldn't function very well without an "air-out" vent, why not just reverse the scoop to make the airflow thru the engine bay more efficient? With the opening of the scoop to the back of the truck, the normal airflow thru the engine bay should be better and maybe even allow more air thru the radiator. Depending on how you cut the holes in the hood to make it functional, you may still be able to try this. It would be interesting to know if it helped reduce temps under there.

arent those toyota wheels..... i think they look fine.. why waste money in going BACK to stock. whats the piont? do whatever the hell you want man. leave if it saves you money. just get a couple of holesaws and go to town under it......

I tried to turn around the scoop and pull air out of the engine compartment but the previous holes are not coverable. So, I cut out the hood and made it functional. I will trade someone out for a stock one if they want it.

They are Toyota wheels but from a 4runner....Can't do that.

Waggoner, post a pic of how you are running in now - especially the underside as Bill did with his louvres (eur spelling added as stylish upgrade).
