Thanks guys, for the comments ;)

Nice job! I bet you could get a gray sharpie (permanent marker) to be a close match for the edges of the covering....Just a thought.

I thought about that too, I have already been in one "pen" shop but they didnt´t have any grey permanets. I will check other shops.

sorry for the hijack... does your steering wheel have an air-bag?

No, it is just an old fashion steering wheel ;)

"slate gray" might do the trick. If your pen shops can't source one maybe we could track one down here and send it to you?...What city/area/region of iceland are you in? Totally coincidentally, my daughter (8 years old) came in a few minutes ago and opened up the World atlas to find the Earth's Northern most city....I guess they were talking about it at school...Anyhow.....let us know if we (my daugheter and I) can help....

Cheers (skoal????)

Have to ask...

Can you still shift into "L"

Maybe it is just the angle of the picture but it looks like the console will be real close to keeping you from being able to shift all the way down.

Nice work though

P.S. I would add a strap (or two) or cable or something between the top lid and the console to keep it from over extending your hinges.

Thanks, alot. I will find a pen over here, plenty more shops to look at. If not, I will be in the US next Friday for ten days ;) Will be traveling from Boston MA to Urbana IL and then fly back to Boston and home.

But I live in Reykjavik, the capital city on the south west coast of Iceland.

Yes I can still shift to "L" and the strap is coming as mentioned in earlier post.

Skál! (cheers)

I went to high school with fellow by the name of Lhinner Olafson. I'm sure I spelled his first name incorrectly. I think he is in the advertising business in Reykjavik. Very nice guy. Very good photographer.

Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

It is ready, well almost ready, still have to add some retainers to make sure the lids do not open to much.

It it taller than the original. It is about 40 cm from floor in the back. Similar height as the armrests on the door panels, when resting my hand on it it fits right on the gear shifter.

I got it from a used parts dealer, it came from a Carina if I remember correctly, it is a direct fit, no mods at all. I don´t know the year.

I wonder if Toyota Carinas are sold here in the States under a different name? Btw, really nice and functional center console.

I dont know about that but this is the car I´m talking about.

if your in town overnight let me know!

I will be there for one night, my girlfriend is flying in from Illinois to meet me, then we are on the road next morning. In some Ford Focus rental car, what a silly car. Why dont they have 80s on the rentals ;)

Really appreciate the info. May I ask you one more favor? Can you post pix of your steering wheel? Thanks

Tell me what you think! They are made and sold locally at the car accessories stores here in Kuwait! They make them for any Land Cruiser and any Nissan Safari/Patrol!

 Wow, that thing's so tall you won't be able to see the passenger.:D

You do have plenty of storage though. I'm going to build mine up but not that much. I want to be able to rest my arm up there.

Tall but comfortable! If you notice that there is a small elevated part towards the back of the arm rest, that part is for hawks/falcons and when one is placed on that then the bird comes to shoulder hight as if it was a passenger! ;)

What? A hawk rides with you and stands on that raised area while you drive. Do you have to put something over it's eyes or is it well behaved?

I don't have any pics of hawks/falcons in the car but check out the pics below to see the head cover we put on them in order to keep them still!

The hawks/falcons are secures to the center console by the following :

This has become an very geographically diverse center console thread - both varieties seem to lend themselves well to the owners intended uses....At the momemt I'm a bit short on falcoms so I would lean towards the icelandic example.......Having said that I find myself wondering about the polar bear seat covers in the other cruiser...:clap:

Hehehe! "Polar Bear seat covers!" Nice one! First time I heard of that! They are actually sheep wool covers! Some what of a Bedouin tradition in the Arab countries! I put them on to blend in with the other Kuwaitis who use the 80 series cruisers as a daily driver!
