What suspension/tire combinations are folks running on their diesel, H55 60s? I'm leaning towards Dobinsons suspension + 33" KO2s. However, some threads seem to suggest the gearing with 33s is a little off. Might I be better off with stock springs, bilstein shocks, and 31" KO2s? That option is certainly cheaper, too!

assuming your soon-to-be-yours hj61 has the 4.10 gears that mine did stock, gearing will be GTG with 33s no problem. If you go to 35s or bigger you may want to consider regearing to 4.56 or 4.88s. I have the 4.88s and 37s and I cruise on the highway at 68 mph at around 2800-ish rpms.

suspension and tires depend on what you plan on doing with the truck.

I'm about to install the Dobinsons IMS kit on my HJ, I'll let you know what my thoughts are after install, but have heard nothing but good things about it. Just skip the lowest tier, which is apparently awful.

As far as 33s, i had no problem on my dead stock truck with 3.70s. 31s do a bit better in the mountains, but first is so short with the H55 and the low end torque of the 12HT that it's completely a non-issue and I don't really notice much of a drivability difference when i switch between tire sizes.

I would definitely keep the stock 4.10 gears with the 12HT.

I have a BJ74, so 13BT/h55f/4.10s so basically identical drivetrain (minus 2 cylinders)

The bj74 is pretty similar to an hj61. I run a 2.5” lift OME (old) and Bilstein shocks along with 275/75r17 Yokohama MTs. They are basically a 34x11” tire. I ran the 255/85r16 before 33”

Both sizes worked great. At 65mph I’m running 2300ish RPMs on the 34s. It was more like 2400 with the 33s.

If you are going to lift it 2.5” or more I would go with a 33” tire, 31 will look a little small IMO.

That's helpful, thank you! What 17" wheels are you using?

Doesn't look like there are many AT options for the 255/85/16 size.

I’m using 17” take offs from new 4 runners. Only down side is I have to run spacers. Eventually I’ll cough up the dough for some nice Baird or Evocourse in the right backspace. They do make them in the right backspacing overseas for the Hilux, but it was a little harder to find so I went the easy route for now.

Gives the cruisers that OEM base wheel look.

Not many at all in the 255/85r16 size, but the Toyo M55 seems to be a fantastic long running AT in that size. Tons of reviews on that tire.
