why you try to push your 60 series ( bad factory brakes ) over the limit . ?

I never try to go more than 120 km/h it's enought speed to me ..

just my .00002 cents ..

P.D. when finish my turbo intercooler proyect push my Hj-60 with 37" to 150 km/h in a clean alone road .. and it was so scary !

This isn't a matter of habit. 3500 is the start of the yellow, and I have taken it there only perhaps a dozen times, and briefly. If I keep it to 3000-3200, you guys still think I am pushing it too hard?

My driving rpm are usually 2500 - 2800 I can count with my hand each time that I push it up to 3500

Holy crap, you all are the most conservative drivers I have ever heard of. This isn't a fragile motor fellas. The 2H is rugged and built to withstand extreme conditions, long treks and hot temperatures.

Damn.

yah but diesels hate high rpm. Redline means nothing I'm afraid. The problem being on such a high compression engine the more you rev it the more pressure it is going to endure. The pistons travel slightly further, and create more pressure, the crank bearings get more pressure etc. The head has to endure more.....

The EGTS when pushing hard in top gear might also get toasty. That leads to cracked heads. Or dropped pre-combustion cup. Then your have complete engine failure needing an overhaul. Ask cruiser_guy.

So do you even have a pyro on it?

If you need to go 130, like they said tire it up a little.

Sure diesels are tough, but definitely not made for speed.

1st diesel huh? In reallity the 2H is based on an old design and is designed for countries with long distances and bad roads in between.
It will bounce along all day fully loaded and more, and get good fuel economy but at low rpm.

Yours will go bang very soon:D

Looks like a nice Auto meter Exhaust Temp Gauge (egt) for a discounted price.

Auto meter EGT gauges are usually $150.

This gauge should provide some cheap insurance or at least take some of the guessing about the effects of high rpms on your hj.

I am curious to how hot the my diesel gets on the highway so, I just ordered one for my 3b.

This thread has encouraged me to keep the 3.73s from the bj60 for my bjt62 project.

Thanks!

I just bought an 84 BJ60 5spd 411,000 original kms. I had to to 115 km/h but it doesn't feel right to speed in a cruiser. I usually have it at 2300 to 2600 rpm, 95-105 i think.

I'm not afraid to place my tach in 3550 for a short time .. like a swamp or sliperry hil .. but I don't think I would do more than what 10 mins or so ..

Ya know .. I don't take my Cruiser and start a race to see how much faster I can go ..

Top speed????
Really slow.I'm pretty sure i've seen turtles pass me on up hill climbs.(turtles in Wyoming?)Or maybe I was just delirious from driving so long because it takes my almost twice as long as it should to get any where.I love my Cruiser.
