I am looking at a 1986 HJ-60 w/5spd, also looking at a couple rust bucket BJ60s Any would be used as drivetrain doners into my 1985 FJ60 to Diesel conversion.
So now the questions>>>>
1) Is the body wiring different from a 12v system to a 24v system? (would I have to rewire the whole rig?
2) Is the 24v system a PITA....especially in the US?
3) Which would you do HJ or BJ? I have had many Cruisers (13) but this will be my first Diesel............and here I know nothing.

Thanks for any info

We won't get into which engine is better, as it becomes a thing of taste. Many threads on it.

But I would pick the lowest KM engine with the best compression.

Also the BJ is 12volts. So it would make it easier, but you could convert your engine to 12volt on the HJ. You would not make the whole rig 24. No point. Make the engine match the rig.

An HJ with an auto would mate up to yur engine.

Have a search in a few pages here, you will see hj vs bj stuff. Just flip thru the pages.

12 volt conversion is not hard.

--a/c coil should cross over for either engine 12 to 24

--the starter is easy to convert using 12v diesel pack

--senders all exist in 12/24

--alternator is tricky only if you want to keep the factory. 2H 12 volt could be found out of australia or a number of other countries. If you use an electric vacuum pump, a whole spectrum of alternators can be made to work.

edic's can be found 12 or 24, or cable (manual) conversion.

I'd never advise switching a US fj60/62 to 24 volt.
