I have purchased an '89 Hino Truck and want to no if anyone out there has info about an SAE #3 adapter for installing a Chevy trans or if it was ever bolted up to the Aisin A442F. Somewhere I saw info on the new Hino 4 cyl with an SAE #3 adapter for marine applications. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff in Davis, CA

Oh yeah, This is for my FJ55.

Cool Project. Please do a write up as you go along.

Not alot of threads on using Hino engines in here. Its been talked about before and nobody was sure.

So you might have to go custom.

What is the specs on this engine?

I will. It is a 3.9l 4cyl and is supposed to have 135hp. It starts fast and idles very smooth. It has a 5 speed so I could just run a divorced t-case if I have to. I might try to make a divorced case out of an 80 series t-case.

Ya .. very interesting what kind of engine we are talking .. maybe a 3B type engine . but 3.9 more close to be a 2H .. :D

Im not sure if it would work but Hino already make a t/case for their Hino Ranger 4x4

I like the divorced Tcase idea. Especially since you have so many 80s being parted :)

Thing with adapters and such, it makes it hard later when everything is mixmatched and the next owner needs a part. But if it was all hino the parts would be very easy to get... Just a thought anyhow...

I just saw something I want more than a Mog!

Yeah, I would take one of those! Although I looked into insuring this 14' flatbed and it was 3 times my '94 80 with full coverage for only liability. It has been hard to find info on Hino even though they have been imported to the US since '89

You picked a great engine, I've never seen any big problems on these engines. So what plans do you have for it?

I was thinking the motor and trans and an 80 divorced case in a 55. I am hoping to find a top shifter for the 5 speed or an adapter to the Chevy trannies so I can put in whatever.
