I have a 4/72 FJ40 here in Santa Cruz, CA I am bringing back to life. I really appreciate the pictures especially the FJ40 Camper conversion. Someone at some point was very proud of this “unique” creation.

Looks like it’s solid and pretty much all there including the spares behind the seat. Although I am not new to the site as a visitor, (check in twice a day to see what’s new and lots of research) this is my first post. It probably shows.

Two things I noticed was that in the picture of the engine bay on the driver’s side fender there is a vacuum operated device. Is that a windshield washer pump? Also, I see from the pictures of the dash that it looks like a P.O. added a heater hot water valve for the front heater by the aftermarket knob next to the heater blower switch. Is that correct? You can see from my pictures that a P.O. did the same to mine (except that the cable is missing). I spent hours looking for the correct hot water heater valve on line for a 4/72 FJ40 (and on IH8MUD) until a helpful person from City Racer showed me there wasn’t one. Can I ask you to send me a picture of how your heater hot water valve was all put together on your rig? I am just looking for ideas.

Thanks for sharing your project.

That would be a blast, but I’m in Atlanta, GA.
Mistaken ID! Sorry, I was thinking of someone else.

@72LANDI, nice truck, it's a month older than mine. I should be asking you for advice, you're truck looks more intact. Here is a pic of my upper firewall, with an empty place to hold something that is not there, instead of heater controls like yours.

Here is the lower firewall. Looks pretty modified. One hose goes to a "T" fitting on the lower radiator hose:

Me, I'm no authority, In fact, I'm a proven source of misinformation. ;)

You should start a thread for your truck. No matter how far along it is, there's always a story in it.

Ok, Thanks for the pictures. I don't have a cable that attaches to that shut off valve on the manifold. Mine just has a wingnut. I guess that is how it came from the factory. So I guess operationally you set the heat you wanted in the cab by opening or closing the valve on the manifold and using the hi/low blower buttons (and maybe windows and vent) to adjust the heat level in the cab.
My FJ40 will soon be up where there is snow and freezing temps so if the factory original doesn't prove to be suitable, I am going use the heater hot water valve I showed in the previous pictures and install a cable to it from an exiting hole next to the blower switches in my dash. I will keep you posted. I also have the brass pipes that run the supply and return hot water lines through the firewall as you show in the pictures.

I seem to have the correct carburetor on this rig.

I'd like to say I cleaned it up and here is the after picture, but I'd be lying.

This is SOR's picture. ;)

What a find this rig is. I would not have believed the before vs. after photos. As mentioned earlier, a find like this is every cruiserhead's dream.

No holddown means forward of the rear corner yet. I should be able to snug up the forward canvas once something is in. The first bow can raise up a bit too.

For me it was about 10 months start to finish. Supply chain issues and such. That part was stressful, but I really like it.

The hood took some hits at some point. Spotted this straight hood locally for a couple hundred bucks. Am going to try to repair it and match the paint elsewhere.
Bonus not mentioned by the seller, aprons, spot welded to the hood in a couple places. Cut those off and am pleased.

This is my only non-hood speared hood. A PO cut a notch underneath in front, but a patch won't show.

Back on with the tow bar and the aftermarket bumper. Gonna move down
I-5 a ways. Just notice I seem to have painted my house a matching Land Cruiser color. It was a purely subconcious decision, honest.

This is the greener pasture. Indoors at last!

I think there was a house included in the deal, but I wasn't really paying that much attention to it. I tended to only see the shop. Will see soon if retirement allows for actual progress, or not. Fingers crossed.
