I learned a lot from that thread.

Different strokes indeed. Lots of people put scangauge onto their TDI VWs.. Deciding to always travel with a FAR more powerful OBD programming tool and netbook, I've never felt the need. Maybe I'm the weird one after all.

So it was 78 deg at 5:30 in the morning and the engine was running 195. I am gonna change the thermostat and have the radiator cleaned and see what that gets me. I will look at the temps this afternoon on the way home

I am going to rebuild the fan clutch also this weekend, and see what my results will be next week. Plenty of info on rebuilding one, and I remember doing on my 83 truck back in the 90's looks to be pretty much the same

Well it was running 221 on the way home and I listened to the fan clutch and I never heard it howl. Even at slower speeds the temp wouldn't come down. Looks like a fan clutch rebuild and a thermostat and might as well do a whole coolant tune up. Radiator came back with good results and no clogging

Thanks to all you guys who gave me some tips. It turned out the fan clutch was a big culprit since I got less than 20ml out of the clutch that required 50ml. I put 15k oil in my Aisin and replaced the thermostat that I don't know how old it was. I have been driving in 105 temps all week and my freeway temps bounce between 195-199 and warms up another 5 deg in stop and go traffic so that is roughly a 25 deg drop. Pretty awesome. Thanks !!!

good to hear, thats some serious improvement.
