So my Alt plug at the fender was seized so I replaced it with a newer style yota plug. After the solder job was complete. I fired up my truck and now my volt light is on and my volt meter doesn't climb all the way now. And the worst part is now my truck idles at 2k. WTF?
I should mention that I accidentally grounded my charge wire while snipping it (forgot to yank the bat) and it sparked but that was it. Thoughts??? It's a 84 22r carbed external reg.

Id have the alternator checked. I know when mine have gone bad I've had weird idles, to low or high

So after a long day I've found that my choke is bad and my alt is bad... Bummer! I'm not sure how or why it happened but when my choke was plugged in, it was killing power to my charge fuse. Checked the ohms on it and it was super low. Unplugged it and then my charge light kicked off and she idled fine. Headed home and my volt meter slowly dropped. Had the alt checked and it was bad.

I thought that if your alt wasn't working right that the charge light would come on? Anyone have any input on the choke thing? It was super weird

I know with my stuff (89) my battery, brake and A/t temp light come on

Lol. Yea yea yea.... Well I did the alt upgrade today that you showed me and everything is just dandy. I disconnected the choke so worst case is it will be hard to start in the morning

Pish my old carb I manually put the choke on even though it was an auto choke

Weber knock off with the choke on the side d:

I don't have to deal with stupid Cali emmisons where I live. Actually where I live the lifted trucks mainly get in trouble for mud flaps or fender flares. But that's not often unless it's end of the month time. Back on topic your idle is still funky with the new alternator?

No my alt took a crap ironically when I replaced a connector. I accidentally grounded the charge wire briefly and I think that smoked my choke somehow. Idk. But I unplugged my choke and zip tired the linkage open so no more choke. Idles ok now but rough cold morning starts. Just kinda weird that my bad choke was killing power to my charge fuse. Guess I gotta hurry up with my re build.
