Hello all,

I am new to this page so please be kind to me. I am in the process of fixing up my FJ80 (94) and came across an issue. Recently I have been experiencing high idle and I cant seem to pinpoint the issue.
Things I have done: Replaced IAC & TPS
Clean throttle body
Clean MAF and sensor
Check for Vac leaks and inspected ports
Smoke test (no leaks)
Throttle cables are new with slack

I am out of ideas. Would like to try the repair this myself without bringing it to a shop.

What rpm's did it idle at in the past, engine warmed up?

Did the high idle start suddenly, progressively get worse over time, after maintenance or??

You have a Fzj80

I have heard the coolant temp sensor can cause this, how’s your timing?

It used to be at 1k when warm. One day it just started getting higher

pull your EFI fuse for 10mins and see if it comes back down after a reset.

P.s 1k when warm is way too high. Base idle should be 650rpm (sometimes a tad higher, but nowhere near 1k).

This happened to me very recently, and coincided with a vibration from the a/c system. I replaced the a/c tensioner pulley and reset the ecu.

The idle was high, even when the A/C was off.

UPDATE: So I ordered a new IAC because someone on FB suggested that the after market eBay ones were not correct. The part that is inserted into the valve system is bigger on the OEM spec versus the eBay spec. Here are the photos for comparison I ordered a new unit from Curiseryard and it worked perfectly!

So if anyone out there is having issues with high idle, I would highly recommend you make sure that the parts you install are the same size as the oem specs.
