Hi-Lift Mount on ARB

Perhaps you could do an in-class experiment. My bolts are grade 8 1/2" with a 60" hi-lift and a WasklyWabbit slider adapter (and no you can't borrow my truck for the experiment!).

My main concern would be the wing nuts vibrating loose on dirt roads, even with the lock washer. My Hi-lift is on the rear bumper, and I use a nylon-insert nut. I just keep the socket/ratchet in the center console. Plus the bolt has a hole through it at the end where I put a cotter pin, "just in case".

I haven't priced hoods from CruserDan lately, but they can't be cheap...

Place an old shock bushing above and below the jack and you'll have no problems at all. I run wingnuts to hold mine down and it survived 1000 miles of dirt and vibration on the Utah Cruiser Expedition just fine. Wingnuts make for an easy install just before you head out on the trail.

Agreed. No problems with my mount with over 4,000 miles and at least a half dozen trips off pavement. The wing nuts don't move and I have little worry that the bolts will shear...

No rattle, even off road. It's a great place to mount the jack IMO...

I had no problems with it during the four days of rattling in the desert. Wing nuts with the lock washer were just fine. I checked on occasion to be sure.

Only thing I'll change for next trip is to reverse the way the mount points using Slee's rooftop mount. I'll point the jack handle to the front of the truck out over the front of the bumper instead of toward the hood. With it on the hood side, you can't open the hood. In case of an engine fire, that's not good. You'd have to remove the jack before opening the hood - NOT GOOD. Live and learn.

The rattling of the base and the slider adapter had two of the trucks in front of me on different occasions thinking they had something loose on their rig. Sorry Scott and Dana! I guess I just got used to the rattling sound - that and I had my windows up to mitigate the dust (like I could).

Update

Doing some research and found this thread...Just wanted to update some of the information. I've had my Hi-Lift on the ARB for 5 years and never had any problems. It sets atop milled aluminum posts with grade 5 SS bolts and wing nuts. I drilled the top of the bolt (thread end) and installed a Spring clip cotter pin in thereby if the wing nut becomes loose the cotter pin will stop it before it comes off.

As for it becoming airborn in a crash...Well, that happened this December. A minivan ran a stop sign and we met in the middle. The ARB protected the 60, but got tweaked and the Hi-lift was bent but the mounting tabs and bolts never moved. Granted with enough force/energy anything could happen...

sorry to revive a dead thread, but what do have resting over the bolts? are they rubber bushings? or something else? i'm looking to do the same with my rig and I'm trying to get a list of the small parts I need to mount it up front. The mount looks clean and i'd definitely like to replicate it

Above and below the aluminum posts are nylon bushings. They're about 1/4 in thick and reduce the wear between the HiLift and the post. Still going strong. Good luck!

All that aside, I stopped carrying a hi-lift outside the vehicle due to corrosion reasons. The damn thing was always sticking and wouldn't work right. Now I have it disassembled and throw it in the truck when I'm goin on serious 'wheelin trips. I found it's much easier to store disassembled since the main bar lays flat.

I do the same. I put the bar under the middle row seats in the 100. It just fits crossways. With the seats locked down it's not going anywhere. The rest of the jack fits into the drawers in the back.
