Hood open? Huh? In the OP photo, it does not look to me like the hood is open or even partly open. Look at the hood-to-grill seam. Looks tightly closed. Am I missing it?

I would regard the odd paint job with suspicion.

Check the VINs on the panels, the paint could be a sticker/wrap. I would go in with eyes open but your DD sounds good.
