Just ahead of you handing you the strap
1/2 ton 3.0L manual 4x4:

Got the 10 housing bolts off(pumpkin housing), but it won't come out more than a quarter inch. The manual only has an exploded view, no detailed instructions. I need to replace that gasket. Any suggestions?? Anyone ever have one apart?

Thanks,
Bobby

Since new in 92, only leaking from the pumpkin case gasket. I have no special tools... I'm rebuilding the engine (easy to me) the this rearend seems quite intimidating. In FAQ I found a site with lots of great info on the rearends. Got light headed when I saw what it takes to swap gears. This rearend ran dry and began to whine years ago. Have been servicing it and letting it leak ever since. Could I have it adjusted to get red of the whine or will I be purchasing another set of gears? I'm restoring the PU for my nephew.

no I am talking about the wheel bearings/seals in the rear no real speacial tools needed. I have a set of 4: 11 gear for the rear(out of an 84) if you need it?
s if you

You won't know anything till you get in there. You can most probably find an entire third member for cheaper than a new set of gears. Check the rear axle bearings for slop while you have them out and replace if necessary. Unless you have a large press you will need to take the axles to a machine shop. $20 per axle here.

If you give us a general idea of your location, someone may be able to give you a hand. I have all the equipment to change out rear axle bearings and do diff rebuilds, for instance.

true true.....besides my 84 will not fit in his will it?

According to Zuk, you can put 4-cyl gears in a V6 housing.

456 gear install

I've never tried it, though.

Not that I'm trying to undercut you, but I have been trying to GIVE AWAY several sets of 4.11 gears for awhile. No takers yet. I have at least 3 sets I believe, a 4 cyl, a V6, and a reverse cut set from a hi-pinion e-locker.

(plus the TWO spare W56 trannies...)

inside the diff tipss

Remember you cant swap the tapered carrier bearings from a 4cyl with a v6 housing because the v6 bearings are bigger they fit on the carrier it self but will not bolt inside the race of the bearing because of the size it would be all loose.

(4cyl carrier open spider gears, V6 Closed carrier u cant see the spyders. 4cyl is weldable easy)

You will need the right 2 prong puller to get the bearings off blah blah

There easy to put on with a hammer and patiance i went to a local truck shop the get my 2 bearings pulled when i spool locked the rear of my 91

ill also add is very easy to set the placement of the crown by feel and eye, your supposto have .008 free play, but what ever you can use disk grinder chuck key fits inside to adjust your preload u can tighten them into the right spot its pretty easy.
I used that red high temp gasket maker stuff on the knuckles with the 4 bolts and on the 3rd with 10 bolts
