I'm the proud owner of a 1997 FJZ80 which is throwing P0340 (and other) codes. The FSM says P0340 is a cam position sensor and to check resistance on the distributor where the sensor seems to be located.

Now I've done a little searching here on the forum, and it seems the most common symptoms of this code is the "won't start", the "dies immediately", and other major no-goes. My worst symptoms are 13mpg rather than 15 or so, and a rough idle now and then.

The resistance according to the FSM should be "185ohm-275ohm" with engine cold. I meadured mine on a 98deg Arkansas summer day as follows:
* pin 2-3: 460ohm
* pin 2-4: 230ohm
* pin 3-4: 230ohm

The FSM says if the Distributer is good to check continuity on the wiring to the ECM. I want ahead and did this, and everything was good.

Now i'm *pretty* sure I need to replace the distributer housing (according to FSM). Before I do though, I was wondering if anyone on here has an FZJ80, a multimeter, and 5 minutes to spare to confirm/correct that it should be 230ohm-ish between all 3 pins.

So, does anyone have experience with this code? Does anyone have a multimeter and 5 minutes? Can anybody help me NOT spend 280$(grumble grumble) on a new distributor?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks @blkprj80! I'll grab a cheap timing light next time I'm at the parts store. It'll be a minute before I can report back since my rig is at work and other plans poppedal up for this weekend.
