Well, I did it. I making the switch to an 1hd-ft with an auto. But I have come to the realization, two young ones and one on the way, I don't have the time to do it myself and I'm enlisting the services of Proffitt's in Utah.

This is where the help/suggestions are needed. Shipping cost of the half-cut, from the Valley area to Tooele, Utah are unreal. The primary reason being the haft-cut's dimension's exceed a lift-gate's capabilities and there is no forklift on site at the pick up location:bang: If I had a forklift at the location the costs would be much more reasonable and I'd have no problem going that route.

My first question; does anyone have or know somebody with a forklift in Van Nuys near Sylmar Ave? I'd rather help out a Mud member or a friend of a Mud member, than give an obscene amount of money to an unknown shipping company.

I've thought about renting a trailer and towing it out there myself. My dad has volunteered to help towing the trailer with his Duramax. But then the question is more about help and timing. I'm off during the week days and Pops is retired so he can work around my schedule. Plus we have one other person in our ranks to help with the loading. My first question about the forklift stands on this option well.

Here's the specs on the half-cut container: 100"L x 66"W x 50"H and 2800 lbs.

Next question; how to load it on the trailer w/o a forklift? We do have four wheel dollies to put the container on. But from my understanding the wheel dollies do not roll well and the container crabs. Plus 2800 lbs has a great deal of energy to stop if it starts moving a way you don't want it to.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated and as my wife says "Help... Please"

Sorry if im no answering your question and jumping ahead... but my big million dollar question is , how are you going to get it pass inspection when you get it all done?

I've been wanting to send my truck out there, or to Slee and do the same thing, but im worried about the DMV here and how one hand doesn't talk to the other hand, its a gray area.. this and that. I never get straight answers and its like rolling the dice.

Dave, no worries. We're just looking for help/input. If we have to we'll suck it up and pay the freight cost, but would rather try and save a few hundred bucks.

Re: getting it to pass inspection, like you said rolling the dice. I have a few ideas though and can shoot you a pm or let you know in person; I still have a first gen Trasharoo and would like a new one. I may need to take a trip up to your shop again soon.

I just read you Big Bear write up, very cool. If I'm ever able to get a weekend off the, fam and I would enjoy meeting up with you all.

Did you buy Dana Adams half chop Toyota diesel? Not to put down Proffitt's as I don't know their work, but there's a place in San Diego County that does diesel conversions as well. West Coast Cruisers I think. Again, don't know anything about them or their work either. Just looked at their website when I toyed with buying Dana's half chop of Ken for the estate before I just redid the cylinder head on my '94.

Good luck!!

Brent, you're spot on. I've been working with Ken for the last few weeks. The big issue I'm running into is not having a loading dock or forklift at Dana's. After my conversation with a freight company today I pretty much decided to get a trailer and tow it out there with the help of my dad and his Duramax and I follow behind in the 80. Only question now is how to get a 2800 lb box on a trailer?

In my research for a shop to do this I spoke with Michael, I think, at WCCs about the Wholesale Automatics Nomad valve body and TC. He did not mention he did conversions, but did have good things to say about Proffitt's though. I would of like to find a place closer to home. But having Proffitt's do the job will give me a chance to visit with some family in UT and CO.

Very cool! Please keep us posted. Will enjoy hearing about this conversion and glad Ken finally found a good home for it. I remember seeing the pics of the half chop, so I understand your 'problem' with it's size!

I think TLC out in the valley has done conversions as well, but sounds like you have several good reasons for a visit to UT and Proffitt's.

Well, I'm going to be cruiserless for a few weeks now;)

My dad and I, with kemasa's (Ken) help got the half cut loaded on the trailer. I followed Pops and the halfcut to Tooele, UT and arrived at Proffitt's on the 11th. I'll keep you'll posted.

Ken thanks for all the help, I owe you lunch. Plus, thanks for giving us the alternate route. While listening to the radio on the way out I heard there where several accidents and the 210 was a parking lot.

Would it cost that much to rent a forklift for a few hours to load it?

The cheapest forklift rental I found was $300 dollars. With the trailer I rented the forklift would not have helped. The trailer's bed dropped all the way to the ground.
