OK, I currently drive a 1984 FJ60 and I have installed an H55, it has lockers, winch and OME lift. I have come across a 1984 Truck, regular cab, long bed. It is very faded and has some rust on the rear quarters, but not too bad. Inside is very clean, but it does not have AC. It has about 150,000 miles on it, header and MSD box. Tires are Wrangler MTR's (265's) The problem is that it has a bad motor. I think it could be a good DD and trail truck, but I would want to at least have AC and probably change it to a 22RE. The question is...how much is it worth, how much will a good 22R or 22RE cost? What about AC? If I drive it every day, it has to have AC. I need to make a decission by Tuesday morning if possible. HELP PLEASE!
Thanks
Craig

No motor, rust, single cab, and no AC. I probably wouldnt pay more then 1K for it. A good 22re would probably be around 2K with all of the computer and wiring. I bet you can find another one that is a lot closer to what you want to do with it for not that much more.

Are you looking to trade the 60 for the truck? I wouldnt do it 60 is worth a lot more

He wants $1400 and I thought $750-$1000 seemed ok. I think you can buy a 22RE long block for $1500-$2200 depending on who it is from..but then you need all the other stuff...parts trucks with running 22R's or RE's would likely be the best bet??? I really need AC for hot midwest summers. I was looking for something that got a little better mpg so I could use as a part time DD. The 60 gets pretty poor mileage, but it runs great, has AC and room for 4+. It just got new tires a year ago and all it really needs is a paint job???

If no a/c ever installed, you could be looking at $600 or better for the parts, plus ripping apart your dash (or paying someone to do so). If switching to efi, you need to research and do a parts list(IIRC, you need the harness, computer, mass air flow, gas tank etc)..

I would try to find a totaled 22re with a/c, or in this case, a project car for your project car!

Getting discouraged yet? I'd just hate to see you trying to get rid of this thing(s) 9 months from now after sitting in your driveway unfinished. That said, you're dealing from a position of strength, with him trying to sell you an old pu with a bad motor.

I'd find another good 22re pu and sas it if you want to. $500 for the 84, and $500-$800 for the wrecked 22re donor. If you want even more work, you can use the 22r bottom, and 22re head (or visa-versa), but there's an exhaust problem.

Another more expensive option would be a Tacoma 3rz (4cyl) swap. It bolts up directly to a 2nd gen w56 5speed (don't think you could use the old 84), has the HP and torque of the 3.0 v-6 (3vze), is not too tough to find wrecked, and due to the lighter weight of the 84, it would burn rubber most definitely. Off Road Solutions - Extreme Toyota Fabrication has the wiring handled (foi @ $700). You just need to decide if it's worth the $1500-$2500 to do the swap.

This video should do all the talking needed regarding the Taco 3rz 4 banger.

1400 for a project... Meh... The other side is, with insurance and slightly better gas mileage, you probably won't ever save any money by doing this over DDing the 60. The only up side is keeping the miles off of the 60....

I just got a Honda Civic, I think it'll start paying for it's self in 5-7 months, depending on how high gas prices go.... Course I only payed 175 for it..... :D
