Lcwizard, wow cage not even tweaked. Must of had the frame tie-ins?

I agree, it's not the prettiest, but should be plenty strong enough (depending on tubing type etc) for all but competition use. Definitely stronger than any factory structure

When as a passenger I get that stupid feeling I should extend my arm to stop a roll over. I sure appreciate a good cage.

Stupid is an understatement. Unfortunately it seem's like a natural tendency (extending one's arm).

I'm a trauma orthopaedic surgeon - we see terrible injuries when there's a rollover with someone's arm out of the window (or a roll cage) - even at slow or almost no speed. Roll cages don't really prevent those injuries. But if your belted, at least you won't die (or less likely to).

This is what a cage should look like after a pretty good roll

Dave, can u ship one of your (assembled) cages to Detroit? Your rear tire carrier is so nice I think I may need your roll cage in the future...

5point and grips in side the bar thanks. As driver we have a wheel to hang onto the copilot shouldn't grasp the bar if it's going turtle as you might crush your hands between bar and ground. It's a natural reaction to put your hands out to stop a fall. The blue LC in pic has multiple attached soft handles. For extreme wheeling it's great for ride alongs

Yes but the freight rates usually scare people off. Freight companies can be annoying. You can have a pallet classed at the pick up end and
the recipient station manager reclass it at the destination. The cages take a lot of truck space. I definitely recommend NOT powdering or painting before shipment

No, just to the sheet metal. You'd be surprised how well the 40 metal holds up. You have six 6x7" plates, 42 sq/in x 6, or 252 square inches
of contact. The front hoop is bolted over a frame extension that was supporting the step. I've rolled frame mounted caged 40's that fared no better. It's more about whether or not the cage deforms. The cage does as much to hold the body intact as the body holds the cage intact.
A minimal family cage is just that,..minimal. Dash bars, cradles, harness bars keep the cage structure from deforming and pulling the body apart.
The 40 I pre ran the score events to photograph, had an engine cage as well, tied trough the firewall. I did about six rolls down a mountain, two end over end. After we got it upright and got the tires holding air I drove it 40 miles home. Because of the engine cage the
front end was in much better shape than that gray one on the flat bed. Engine and radiator were undamaged. The sheet metal was beat

Now that I have title in hand I had a chance to tear into the truck this weekend. With the top off and a closer look at the welds, this wasn't something I could trust. It was clearly homemade and cumbersome to get around. And if i ever go to a hard top, I doubt it would have fit. All that said, a full cage from Metal Tech has been ordered. Out with the old!

This is what a cage should look like after a pretty good roll. 40ish MPH on the street. No damage to the cage other than paint.
San't say the same for the sheet metal. The windshield frame was molded around the front hoop. The right side had even more sheet metal damage. Pretty sure it will buff out

Looks like new tires would have also helped.

LCwizard, I had never thought of the cage as something that would keep the body from being tweaked, but with all those plates.... cool, added bonus and another reason to do it right
