Help me decide on a tent

You know, if Springbar would just make some updates and modifications that the Kodiak has,I'de buy it and call it a day. I don't understand why Springbar can't add vents at the top, some storage solutions like a overhear locker net abda canvas floor. It seems to me if I were to put a bunk cot with two people sleeping in them, that would place a lot of weight in small areas causing wear and punctures.
So, I am still up in the air on the Turbo Tent, Springbar and Kodiak.

I've seen both last year. Both have good points and not so good points. I did like the vents on the Kodiak, but have had no problems venting the Springbar. Floor is thicker on the Kodiak. I use the canvas drop cloth Springbar has below the tent and sleep on a cot. No issues with the floor. I like the stake holders and construction on the bottom of the Springbar much better than the Kodiak. Seems much stronger. Pole systems and rest of the design of both is virtually the same. My Springbar came with one mesh bag that hangs on one side of the tent and a multipocket bag that hangs on the other side to put lots of junk in.

Bottom line - I dont' think you can go wrong with either. Kodiak is brown, Springbar is light green. :meh: Springbar warranty is lifetime IIRC. Don't know about Kodiak.

Have you ever used a Mr. Heater in your Springbar? That's what I plan on using and would like good ventilation. Yes, I could zip down some windows to ventilate but that defeats the purpose.

I have a Duluth campfire tent with the optional end wall for the camp stove pipe. http://www.frostriver.com/tents_tarps/campfire_tent.html

Made for canoe tripping and can be configured in different ways. Heavy canvas and designed for a campfire at the open side. It is extremely durable and pretty heavy.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Well, I went with the Kodiak 10x14. I was planning on going with the Springbar but I got a great deal on the Kodiak. $530 with a ground tarp and includes shipping. I do plan on getting a smaller tent for when it's just me and/or another person. In that case I do plan on getting a Springbar Campsite 3. This will give me first hand knowledge of which brand is better.

How about a Hilberg or a Monte-Bell ? Very good tents...

Post up pics when you get a chance to take and try it out.

Good luck!

I have a Hilleberg Savio tent I use for remote field work. It is pretty damn amazing. The poles are connected to the outside of the fly and the tent body hangs from the fly. it makes it super easy to set up in the rain and high wind. It uses silicon based nylon so it relatively light weight for a mountaineering tent.

These tents is usually overkill for your average camper though.

Just the little Coleman SportCat and it's just too small for the size tent I have.

That is a sweet tent...

Last year was its first year of service. It was really nice. I set it up in the rain, snow and wind with no rain getting in. The stability in the wind is amazing. I don't know how high the winds were, but enough to make it hard to walk. It didn't budge. It also had no real condensation issues.

After realizing that my family has grown and all of my camping gear is VERY old, I decided to update. I got a cot bunk bed for the kids, which are really comfortable and a single XL cot for me that Faith and I almost fit on. I have a 3" pad for it and its as comfortable as any bed you will lay on.Today, my tent came in. It's a Kodiak 10x14 canvas tent. It took me about 10 minutes to erect and get taught for the first time. It will take longer(or maybe the same time since now I am familiar with it) because there are about 14 stakes to drive in and in hard ground, it's going to be a little bit of work.
