Help! Issues before I go to school...

Im moving to go to school and have a few issues to address before I move. Which means I have until saturday to fix them.

Ive been trying to solve my carb/vac issue for a very long time.
I have a Weber 34/34 (K764 K746 34/34 Weber Carburetor Kit Toyota Pickup Truck 22R - JTOutfitters). My problem is in the upper RPMs. I can hold 4g in 1st and 2nd. I do not like to take it above that. As soon as i hit 3rd it stumbles and hesitates above 3200, 4th and 5th are even worse above 3000. Ive messed with it since Ive had it, many long phone calls with wristy later, Im still lost. As is he.

Maybe the secondarys open up to soon?

Issues ive noticed include difficulty starting, and off the wall idle speeds. One day itll be 850 (where its set) the next itll be 1100, Its even gone to 1500 before.

I cannot get it to pull vac over 11. I can go lower, but not higher.

Any ideas? New Fuel pump, ive put regulators on it, etc. But nothing helps.

Ive got a slight ticking noise, like a reoccuring exhaust leak that leaves after i hit 160* on the temp gauge, like a valve... Maybe I just need to re-adjust them.

This is a brand new motor, 3000 miles on it. I mean NEW EVERYTHING. Only thing thats not OEM is the Exhaust Mani and the Weber. Should you adjsut the valves after a certian running period? Besides every 30000 miles?

The Ujoint in the cardon joint (?) is bad, can that replaced? On the pinion. it wobbles, should i worry? its 1/16 movement at the most.

Has anyone ran Rotella 15-40 in there engine? I think 20-50 is to thick and 10-40 is alittle to thin, 15-40 is inbetween... Makes sense to me.

Thanks!

Howdy! Sounds like your throttle linkage is too short, and it is holding the throttle plate open a bit, regardless of where the set screw is positioned. That will also affect the vacuum settings. John

I disagree, Ive crossed that path before as well. It has full swing. Ive tried to adjust the choke. I can take stuff apart andput it back together, its the tuning i have issues with :(

Well, it sounds like something is holding the throttle plate open. That could cause both problems. Regardless of brand of carb, you should be able to adjust the idle speed down to less than 500 rpm with the idle speed screw.

Hmmm, Ok, then, maybe a vacuum leak somewhere else? Maybe something that can wiggle and change all by itself, or something that gets hot/cold and changes? Bad gasket under the carb? Bad EGR, if your still running it?

Wait... i got it, i think... Still a little stumble above 3000 but clears out after 3500. I got the vaccum sorted out and everything. It seems that I over looked the choke.:bang:
Got the DShaft sorted out to an extent. Im going to have to rebuild one or make one.

How about the 15-40? Any suggestions. NO SYNTHETIC. Ive had nothing but bad luck with it as of late.

I've used 20-50 wt when my engine was burning a bit to cut down the amount of oil it burned.

I'm looking at going to 15-40 soon in all my engines. I can get it bulk from John Deere for about 9$ a gallon.

Glad your makin progress. Is that carb a two stage, like the Aisin? If so, then it could be a hesitation in the secondary kickin in. The Rotella 15-40 should be fine. I have no personal experience with it, but any good name brand oil should work OK. It's the cheapo house brands that are really dangerous. They tend to leave out additives to reduce the cost. I have run 10-40 and 20-50 in all my cars for years, no big difference, whether I was in Illinois, Wyoming, or Arizona. I did run a 10-30 or lower when I was out in the woods a lot during the Wyoming winters. Made starting a bit easier. I'm guessin that the DS problem is on the front. A little bit of wiggle is OK if your not running it a lot, but if your gonna go play hard in the boonies , then I would tidy it up. New Toyota joints are probably less than $50. I need to do mine too, and I just don't have the faith to put cheapos in it. I think mine are the originals, at over 200,000 miles. John
