HELP! I just drove 20 miles in 1st gear.

Hmmm, I've never had a stand transmission that wouldn't let it out of gear with a little coaxing--take foot off gas, gently try to ease it out with little pulls as the rpms drop, usually first, second, or third try it would pop into neutral; do same to get into next higher gear.

So you would have to brake against the engine coming up to stops, then flip the ignition off when you felt you were in just about the right place???? Then start it up in gear???? LOL, that must have been a sight!

HAha yeah, It would have been more fun with a friend in the truck...I just woke up so I was more mad than anything,, but yeah it was funny.

Definately take the time to learn clutchless shifting. On account of having a bad MC then a bad slave (and a bad honing job...) I learned how to drive clutchless really well.... I was only getting about 10 shifts per reservoir of fluid, but I still managed to drive it a week- just refilled the res every day, drove mostly clutchless except for stops and tight situations.

I don't recommend it! But it worked.

The culmination was towing my buddies Range Rover up and down some steep hills a day or two before xmas. You just haven't had fun till you are tired, cold, and dragging a Rangie without a clutch. Still and all we made it over 15 miles till I started running into starting problems (the battery just couldn't go anymore)

Fun times....

Once you get your clutch working again, its easiest to learn how to powershift in higher gears. Half the time when I am normally driving I don't clutch in for the 3-4 shift, I probably should though! Also make sure when powershifting into second that when the stick wants to go, you make a solid shift, not a slow maneuver. On my truck if I do it slowly it does this horrible grind (me destroying syncros) thats worse than fingernails on a chalkboard, I think the 2nd gear syncros are the most picky.

had to run out and do some stuff and practiced my powershifting. worked great, except i have no idea how it would work downshifting. i could not get it to go into the lower gear w/o some horrible grinding.

When downshifting, you have to increase your revs--tap the gas to get the revs up and then try shifting.

It's definitely toughter.

so if downshifting into a turn, you need to really go through the turn fast, or go through the turn in a higher gear and then downshift after going through the turn???

not sure if the above even makes sense, but i typically go into the turn "coasting" and downshifting at the same time......

Oops, sorry, you should put it in neutral, THEN tap the gas!!!

I usually roll through the turn while downshifting when using the clutch, but with clutchless, I think you need to complete the shift right before the turn and compression brake into the turn. Does that make sense?

I'll bet you could have started the truck in second gear as another alternative as well....
