Help! Engine stall and dies after water!

Get some dielectric grease and seal the distribuitor and all the spark plugs including the ignition coil. Read a little bit about it but is pretty simple to do it. Same thing happen with my FJ80 and now i can go as fast as i want trough water.
The problem is that some of the electric components are getting wet and all the electricity is not running as it should.

Good idea! I will add the dielectric grease when I replace the wire this weekend.

Double check the ignition coil, its on the drivers side fender well. It would cause the engine to die out completely. From my experience with water in the ignition sysetm, if you get water in the dizzy cap the engine will run rough untill moisture is dried out. Being it just started right up after water crossing and did not run rough, most likely would not be the dizzy cap. Check the ignition wires, if they are old or have more than 100k on them would reccomend replace with OE Toyota wires only (the wire set includes the coil wire also). My .02

Sorry as this might be a stupid question, but why OEM wires and not use Denso or NGK?

Hey Stinkytofu, your PM box is full or won't accept messages.

Hey Rwhat, I only had 3 messages in the box... Just deleted all. Want to give it another try?

I thought Denso was OEM?
You can't go wrong with denso either, other after market wires I do not know about.

Weird... The dealers quote out the set for $103.87 and I can purchase a set of Denso's from flebay for $49.99. There's a huge price difference.

Maybe I am wrong about the OEM?
You need to call Beno or CDan at american toyota, look in vendors page
Mud memebers also get a discount on parts.
Great guys

From my experience nothing exceeds the durability / fit and finish of OE Toyota Ignition componets, especially the spark plug wires. We have fixed many drivability issues by replacing aftermarket ignition wires with OE. (if I am not mistaken, I think that Denso makes the wire sets for Toyota)

Thanks guys for the great info! Will probably stay with OEM and have it changed out this weekend. Won't know if that solves it until I'm up in the mountains again a little later this season.

Sorry Rwhat! Try it again. I didn't realize I had the contact and admin only option checked.

i have had the same problem, was mudding this weekend and there was some standing water withe the mud, i was only going about 10 mph and this time the struck died and would not start for about 20 min, i checked the dis. cap and it was clean and dry, there was a small amount of water in the bottom of the intake, my plugs and cap are new, this has happened two other times and it would just start right back up, this time it did stumble a little then ran fine the rest of the day

Are there holes on your dis cap?

not sure there might be, but there was no water or dirt in it when i pulled the cap, going to put dialetic grease on all the plugs and cap wires today

update, was looking for cracks and areas could get in to the dist. cap, also took a look at the intake, under the air filter container there was another little canister that was fillled with mud and rocks, is there suposed to be something in this container or is it just to let water to eit before it enters the intake hose?
