Where are you at in Idaho? These darn FJ80s keep popping up here :) I'm over in Mtn. Home.

Yep, Theres alot of them around with fairly low mileage. Seen quite a few 91-92's for sale lately.

If you ever get to Pocatello, you can take a look at my turbocharged LC. I wouldn't recommend it but it does help the 3FE.

It's all tore apart right now with a stack of parts from Dan to install today. The raised fuel pressure and heat of the turbo played havoc on the fuel injection system.

I am in Jerome Idaho about 2 hours away from you , so you dont think I will have a problem with my 4.88s and 35 " tires, is there much difference from 35"tires to 315s

315s are basically 35s. Jerome isn't 2 hours a way. It is less than an hour from Mountain Home. I'm not going that way any time soon. But you are more than welcome to come drive my rig. I bet only 60 miles.

Personally I'd go Old Man Emu J springs and 35s. There is a guy in MH with 315s on his 91 with stock gears. He runs a spacer with the 2.5" Old Man Emu Springs.

Give me a holler and I can fill you in on the local 80 stuff.

Turbos for 3FEs don't come in kits, they are all custom jobs, and are more trouble than they are worth. For lift, go with an 850J/863 combo, or 850J + 1" spacer/863J combo. Either will work, the first is about 4"s, and the second probably 5" without any bumpers or minimal armor (the more stuff you add, there will be less lift). Good luck, and for 35's, I would suggest 5.29's, but that's just me.

ok then wich OME lift kit would you install for 33' with heavy load, and wich would you put on for 315 with a heavy load ?

Dude I'm in Twin Falls. Check your kickdown cable for your tranny. Made a huge difference on mine. Give me a call. I'm new to the LC seen also but I found a few tricks.

Since the 3FE has a difficult time pulling the skin off of a custard, 4.88 gears are just dandy for 33 inch tires. With that ratio you will recover some of the lost mechanical advantage.

The "correct" original tire size for 3FE 80's is 235/75/15 which works out to be about 27 inches tall. Toyota also fitted 31x10.50 15 tires but did not bother to correct the final drive ratio in doing so.

D-

You're worse than anyone on here regarding the 3fe Dan. I run35s on 4.88s and think its perfect. You? What have you run in a 3fe?

I think the 33 idea is just flat out poor advise.

I wouldn't recommend additives in any oils, Mobil 1 synthetic has worked well for me, and many here will stand behind it. About those parts, give CruiserDan a PM telling him that you need the parts necessary for a tune-up on a '91 FJ80 and he will hook ya up...and if he likes you, you get 15% and free shipping.

I'd call John Hocker at Sierra Vista Toyota in Arizona for yer parts-tell him you are on the LC forum-I get great prices from him, great guy, and parts are at my door in a heart beat.

Yep, I've considered selling my rig about......let's see how many days in a year?

Well, let me re-phrase that then. Turbo's for 3FE's are alot of work, and if you don't have a great mechanic background or know-how and run into problems because of a bad install, then it would be more trouble than it is worth. Also, I personally don't see how $3-6K justifies what, 100hp? With a probable sacrifice of engine life, increased fuel consumption, and having to run high octane. For some, that isn't a problem, but for those on a not so never-ending budget, a turbo isn't a great idea.

yea I have rethaught asking that question after I read closer the current problems he was having, I dont think that is the route for me
