Hi all,

I had a couple of issues recently with my truck. I had alot of noise coming from the engine compartment and the pulley from the A/C Compressor was smoking the belt, so I cut it, and kept driving.

However, I had a 12volt fan plugged into a the cig lighter, but havent driven the truck in a while, so it would not crank.

I took the 400 amp self-jumping battery and jumped myself but the engine raced to 5000 rpm and I shut it down.

What could cause the battery to die and the engine to race like that. I have not started the car since this morning since I am out of town. At this point, I am ready to dump the truck as I need something that would hand grenade on me.

Thanks,

Mark

Please drop a line either by phone 954 531 9318 or email bluito23@yahoo.com Thanks.

, yeah you need to give it awa.........er, sell it, if it means that much to you.

Personaly I would look around and see just what could (as if  )replace it and base my rational of selling it on that.

How dare that thing give you the service it did and start this now!!
Probably gave you years without so much as a service cost (G.T.O) and now............

The racing engine sounds like a vacuum leak maybe, and you said you had a fan plugged in and the battery died? Was the fan on? Have you put a good battery in it and checked for a draw? There have been a few thread lately on that.

You're not gonna get 2k for a dead truck.... Take a deep breath and then fix the truck.

Hi all,

Here is the skinny on my truck.

1. I am not the original owner.

2. I found the issue what was going on with my truck.

3. If I wanted a Crapolet engine in my truck, I would have bought a Crapolet. I drive a Garbage Motor Company GMC 2500 for work, and its ok, but its not a Toyota.

The current battery is one of those where you add water to the battery cells. I pried the caps off and found that they were low on water. I filled the cells with distilled bottle water, secured everything and self-jump started myself.

I got my trickle charger out and have been charging the battery since last night. Im not home yet, so I should be good to go.

I did start the truck after I jumped myself, and it started right up. Ill probably fix it some and wait until I get some cash and get an FJ Cruiser or an older Landcruiser.

I did check with Advance Auto Parts and a new rebuilt A/C Compressor is about 350. I may check bone yards for a A/C compressor that may have life in it and take it to my mechanic. The price does include the clutch on it.

Thanks for the helpful advice!

I don't really get what the problem was/is? The battery had died, after the A/C? And so you jumped yourself and it started, but raced to 5k RPM, so you shut it down and it's been on a trickle charger since? I'm unclear what the 12v fan being plugged into the cigarette lighter has to do with anything. Something about wanting something that will hand grenade on you???. Then you wanna sell it, then you don't? And now it's not broken down because it starts?

Seems to me it started before, what kind of timeline are we dealing with, are you trying to determine if somehow the A/C is related to the rest of the problem? Does your cig. lighter draw power when the car is turned off?

"I found the issue what was going on with my truck"?

That's 2 sentences. One is a statement, "I found the issue.", the other a question, "what was going on with my truck?". Contradicting sentences as they may be, they don't tell us anything to help us help you. While I wouldn't put a chevy engine in my trucks either, I would appreciate the suggestion someone had bothered to make in helping you with your problem rather than go off on "Crapolet", but hey it's your thread, I guess you can take this wherever you want.

Clearly written problems and clearly written questions, will usually get more usable answers. Good luck with the A/C!

Hobie,

The problem was that the battery died, and did not know the cause. Once I had time and daylight, I ascertained that the problem was low level of water. I filled up the battery cells with water and jump started it last Friday.

The issue was when I jumped myself on Thursday am-was that the engine raced to 5k for whatever reason, I shut the truck down and went to work.

The A/C compressor is a different deal, and I am debating on selling the truck as is, or replace the A/C Compressor and then sell it. Changing the engine is not economically feasible and I drive a GM work truck which is not a Toyota.

Essetentially, the problem with my truck for not starting was the battery. Since I have started the truck, the engine did not race anymore to 5k rpm. It must have been a freak thing.

Thanks for the help and I hope this clarified things.
