I am contemplating a new suspension set up, for my HZJ73 but have some height constraints that need to work within. To gather some data, I thought that I’d poll the group of 73 owners to see what tire/wheel and lift combination yields what max height of the truck.

Hopefully this might be useful information for others down the line. Thanks!

For example, mine is:
255/85 R16, unknown suspension = 7’0”

285/75r17, soft top unknown suspension= 81”

I’ll re-measure when hardtop is on.

Hello,

OEM suspension, 31 x 10.5 x 15 in. tires: 80 in. or 2.03 m.

Same on mine
EDIT:
31 x 10.5 x 15 in. tires
Front frame clearance: 54cm (21")
Rear frame clearance: 61cm (24")
Hub to fender (front, fender flares): ~57cm (22.5")
That's 64mm (2.5") of lift

Hello,

I forgot to mention that there is a simpler way to find out about suspension height.

It is possible to measure the clearance between the front frame rails and the rear frame rails. The rear is around 1/8 in. or 2 mm higher than the front.

Depending on the tires, clearance varies between 18 1/2 in. or 471 mm and 19 3/4 in. or 501 mm.

Using these values, a 2 in. lift will increase the clearance by 20 1/2 in. or 521 mm and 21 3/4 in. or 552 mm, respectively.

This is where the measurements are made.

The clearance values for stock suspension and stock tire sizes are below.

Hope this helps.

Looks like 6’6” (78 inches) is not gonna happen with any reasonable lift/tire combination. I had a BJ70 before and didn’t realize that the FRP would add to the total height so significantly.
