Ok guys... little feedback from my side.
After having LOTS of overheating and radiator leaking problems I did take the risk to have bring me a new radiator from Europe to Argentina and smuggle it through the customs. It worked all fine and it was fitted within about 1hour!
Bought it from All American Imports. Comes as a complete bolt on kit with new extra long shroud, longer bottom hose, rubbers on brackets, deeper bottom plastic cover and radiator cap. Price 489EUR. All original Toyota. But they don't want to tell the part number. Not sure why it's so secret, but I respect that.

I installed it on my 1993 HZJ75, although it's made for a HZJ7/79. Everything fit just perfect, except the overflow tank bracket I need to change.
The radiator is much taller than the HZJ78 and also taller than my old crappy australian brass 4 row radiator.

I just drove on flat roads so far, no pass yet! Hope to be able to test it soon and see how much better it cools down! So far the needled stayed at 72degrees on small hills! But this was not a problem before either. (see other overheating thread for 1HZ I made lately)

I took some pictures and measurements:

Old radiator: the core is about 6cm thick
New radiator: the core is about 5.5cm thick, about 0.5cm thinner than old one

Old radiator: the core is 51x50cm in size
New radiator: the core is 51x56cm in size, that's about 12% increase in surface

Old radiator: has 43 vertical bars/rows or how you call them
New radiator: has 59 vertical bars&rows and they are thinner than on the old one

Old radiator: ribs are regular
New radiator: ribs are super fine, looks like they would have much more surface than the brass radiator ribs!

Some pictures...

My old HZJ75 4 row brass radiator vs. the new one. Tanks are less tall on new one but the whole radiator is about 6cm taller.

This picture they sent me. It's the standart HZJ78 vs. their taller radiator:

That's how the old ribs looked like on my brass radiator:

And this are the new ones. Very fine!

A picture from top, did fit perfect:

And a picture from bottom with plastic bottom cover not mounted yet. See longer bottom hose:

And the fan clearance is also fine. Very close to bottom shroud opening, but I guess that's supposed to be like that:

For HZJ75 users: the radiator overflow tank bracket has to be modified to fit the bolt from the shroud. (yep, I also saw that my bracket broke from vibration!)

why would a more efficient HDJ79 use a bigger radiator than a less efficient (= more heat generating) HZJ79? Does't make sense to me...

just checked... 01-06 HDJ78/79 has a radiator part number 16400-17360 but also does the 99-06 HZJ78/79.... same radiator!
There is a specific HZJ78/79 from 99-06 that uses 16400-17300 . But not sure what's the difference between those 2.

I can guarantee the hdj radiator is larger/deeper than the hzj one. Often used as an upgrade here aswell. Part numbers must be wrong
Edit
16400-17360 is the larger of the two. Early hzj78/79 used 16400-17300. Pretty sure Aus got the smaller one up to end 06

you can have it for free! I will throw it away here in Argentina! 6 times started to leak in 100'000km and did not cool very well! Australian built by northern radiators.

Today I drove a 500m hill in 2nd gear (550C EGT preTurbo) at 30Celcius ambient, AC full on, water didn't go above 78Celcius. With my old copper I would had reached easily 90Celcius on this hill! So this new Toyota radiator seems to perform much better!

It was one of the very few parts on the car (besides accessories) that was not Toyota and it was a huge mistake! Never again! It sucks big time to have to remove 7 times a radiator while overlanding in those countries!

It is well known the HDJ79/78 uses a larger radiator and there have been posts on here and/or the diesel forum in the past. The HDJ7* are often bought for towing large loads in oz , hence the larger rad.
In the years it was introduced Australians couldn't buy the big diesel pick ups from the US in RH drive,so I guess Toyota saw an opportunity.

nope, the copper one was from northern radiators. Wasn't lucky at all with this one!

Yes, I also measure about 54x67cm so looks like the same size!
I got some numbers on the passenger side top tank, but not a part number. Will post it tomorrow.

Makes sense with the towing! Since I got almost 4 tons it's like towing! :)

Wonder if I could stuff one of those big rads in my LJ78 Prado? Even with some modification it would be worth it. I'll have to make some measurements.

My truck has no heat issues...until I tow my 16' Caravan up long grades in 25C+ summer heat...then the temps slowly climb.

ok, finally again in north Chile and did smoe 2300-4750m climbs yesterday at 550C EGT at 2nd gear in the 2000-3000RPM region for a WHOLE day. Ambient temperatures were not too warm at 15-20Celcius and the radiator really worked great!
Engine oil never went over 104Celcius.. usually n the 95-102Celcius region, water never over 85Celcius.. usually in the 74-78Celcius region. It went only once above 80 when I shifted down at 2000RPM...
So far SUPER happy with this radiator! The only 2 year old heavy duty 4 row copper radiator from Australia was pure crap compared to this one!
