I am assuming that this is in a Prado? Has the cylinder head ever been replaced? Have a read through this thread:
LJ78 Big Fan Upgrade #2
You may want to start by flushing your radiator to make sure that it is in good shape and not clogged up. Also, swapping out the thermostat to a high flow one will make a difference.

what is that high flow thermostat? I've never heard of that.

If it's overheating at idle, and you don't have a bad head gasket or head, it could be as simple as a bad tstat. If you pull your tstat out and run it without it might give you an idea.
Pinching off the upper hose really shouldn't have an immediate effect on the temp reading. So, that's a mystery. Unless the tstat is sticking and it is momentarily forcing cool water from the upper hose back through to the temp sender. Which it right there before the tstat. But, that seems unlikely.

If the coolant is low and there is air in the system, you can get weird temp fluctuations. Maybe when he squishes the hose the coolant is touching the temperature pickup? I know on mine when I've done coolant swaps and there is a bit of air in the system still I get weird temperature spikes until the air has worked it's self out after a few cycles. It always reads really high when air comes in contact with the temp pickup, and then a moment later it drops again.

Or, if the head's cracked the system could have combustion gasses displacing coolant which would also give temp spikes.

@nightwind Did you change the coolant and then all these problems started? Or did you have the problems already before changing the coolant?

I just checked moving the fan before starting it seems pretty tight and wont rotate freely ...... but it is an old engine do you think should still go for the Silicone Oil Replacement ?

I will be taking her to a RAD shop to check

So, my fan was tight when it was cold as well, but it was timed to open at way too high of a heat and the fluid was dark yellow and it wasn't working properly. I would definitely recommend doing the temperature adjustment to half open at 95 degrees and then put the 10k fluid in.

Sounds like there is more going on then just a fan though. Make sure theirs no air in the system. Did you try what GTSSportcoupe suggested about seeing if there is bubbles in the system when it's hot?

Let us know how it goes.

Blue fan clutch mod

This is the step by step of the fan clutch adjustment and oil replacement. It's worth the read all the way through as information changed from the beginning to the end by the OP.

Not sure if the link was brought up prior.

Cheers

These problems started to happen before the Coolant Swap, I put in the Water mixed coolant but it had no effect on the heating issues this was from Toyota but then I again drained all of that and today put in the PURE RED Coolant and that has had effect on the heating I switched on the AC at full blast while parked and watched the needle it did rise a little but was way lower than the half way mark, now that you have mentioned I do believe that one of the factors was maybe the coolant was low and dirty, but I am still going for the FAN fix, my other question was how many bottles do I need of

Just 1 should do. It's a 58ml bottle I believe and you'll use just about 50 ml. It's thick as molasses so it takes a while to drain and replace the silicone oil. Well worth the effort though.

Hope it helps!

The temp is stable now, a quarter after C but it does not rise as much when Stopped in traffic or with AC, I am planning to do the Fan fix this weekend, another thing I noticed the belts are slipping time to change them I guess, where in Canada can I find parts for the 70 ......

Guys thanks again ............. Appreciate it !!!!!

Good news! I would still do the fan mod as it's a common thing for the fans to not work as well after this many years. As for parts. 4 wheel auto 4wheel Auto Parts
Is where I get all my parts. Dan is a wealth of knowledge and has helped me substantially. It's basically paying retail, but he'll ship anywhere in Canada and I always get the right parts. To me it's worth the piece of mind and getting the right part quickly matters.

Cheers
