FYI - The NAPA heater valve shown in the link below is almost an exact copy of the Toyota heater valve found in the early FJ40 system:

Heater Valve

The threads are slightly different (NPT), however with the right connectors to the cylinder head the valve should work.

Welcome.

Your link is to a generic search entry for NAPA.

Please provide a NAPA part number.

Not gonna work: That unit says it has 3/8" NPT threads. You need 1/2" NPT threads.

No big deal to put an adapter bushing in there...

:meh:

Right you are! If it is 3/8", would the inside diameter be too small for adequate flow?

if you take an original valve apart the inside is pretty small so a 3/8 should work.

I spliced a cable operated heater control valve into my heat hose, and installed a choke cable to operate it from the dash. Much better solution, in my opinion.

Sorry about the link. NAPA's website is a little odd. If you enter your zip code or click 'shop online' at the link above it will take you to the valve. P/N BK6601402

I installed this valve in my '72 this evening and it works great (I just finished burping the system a few minutes ago). The heater is very hot now that the core is finally receiving hot coolant (the old valve was frozen toast). In addition to the NAPA valve I used the following parts:

- 1/2 NPT M/F brass bushing / adapter (for the cylinder head)
- 1/2 M - 3/8 F brass 90 degree elbow (installed between the bushing and valve)

Although I don't have a picture, the final set-up looks and functions very, very close to the factory arrangement. Total cost = around $20

Thanks for the welcome. Hope this info is useful to others.

My FJ originally had two heater shut off valves. The original that was frozen open, and the second owner added a 1972 Ford F100 cable operated in line heater valve.

During my tear down I put the OEM valve in the de-rust tank, got it apart, cleaned it up, powder coated it and re-installed it. It still works perfectly after 33 years... ;)
