Are the controls for the defrost, vent, bi level, etc controlled by vacuum or a cable? I have no control over them right now and I really need the defrost at this time of year.

What truck are we talking about here?

My 93 4Runner has cable controls.

They are cable the plastic cover snaps off but do it gently then you can get at the control cables buncha crappy plastic clips holden em in place go get some new ones and reatach the cables and selector arm fulcrums. (little plastic thingydoos) and you should be set.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention it was an 86 4runner. The selector feels like there is something connected to it as it doesn't move too freely.

Yes, they are moved with a system of wire cables. Let me know if you need any parts, I have a bunch of this crap lying around and I just bought another parts truck. Yours for the cost of shipping.

The controls for the selector to switch between defrost bi level ext. run down to a serries of plastic levers on the left side of a ventalation box behind the radio in the center of the dash board. the heat cold selector runs to the right side of the radio to a small metal lever that throws a valve on the other side of the fire wall wich you can access from under your hood.

Hope that helps
