Since the July long weekend was spent driving to Red Deer to drop off my dog at my parent's farm and the August long weekend is going to be spent driving to Red Deer to pick her up I fear that this year will soon be over and alas, Charla-dearest will have failed to go wheeling on a single three day 2007 weekend. Oh, the horror, not to mention the embarrassment. :crybaby: I suppose if you consider my failed trip to Calgary on the May Long weekend as wheeling... nah forget it, that's far too much of a stretch (driving on pavement, albeit trying to see through a completely shattered windsheid while in the middle of a late Spring snowstorm) for even me to try to get away with...

Anyway, essentially what I'm trying to get to, is to find out what plans, if any have been made for the Sept. Long weekend? Hmm.... come to think of it I think my friend is getting married around then but I'm not sure... and since I only have two friends and I already missed the one friend's wedding to go wheeling in Alaska... I suppose I should make an effort to attend the other's wedding....or not.

What I'm thinking we should do is to go camp on Dokie Ridge before the wind turbines are built (think that'll likely happen next year, if I recall correctly). Camp at Moberly on Friday night. Camp on Dokie on Saturday and then spend Sunday driving back N to FSJohn via the top secret dino track location.

Deny... This would still work if Jim decides to drive up. Think any of your other cronies would be up for a tame 'n lame weekend? Wish I could join u in Tumbler Ridge but my parents have threatened to steal Prado if I don't reclaim her soon.

Yeah, I know Rod from Dawson was talking about wanting to go to Dokie, and I think Brad from Farminton also mentioned it, he might have his pig ready by then, others would probably be into it too.
Cheers,
Deny

Ok. If you don't mind can you ask everyone you think you'd want to have tag along that Sept. Long is a go. Are you going to see Rod this weekend (sorry, haven't been able to keep up with the mailing list). No wimping out like last year. Rain or shine I'll be camping up there. Thanks dude.

I asked Kim, he was good with it, I asked my brother, he is good with it, will probably see Rod this weekend, will talk to a few more guys this week. I'll post it up on the local site too.
Cheers,
Deny

So, Kim and Jodi coming? Anyone else? Probably camp at Moberly on Sat. night and head up to Dokie Sun. afternoon...depending on your schedule of course.

So far:

Me (Prado & Maggie)
Hayley
You
Jim
Lindsey

Ray has to work... oh yeah, remind me to get the dino track info from him.

See you tonight.

I don't think Kim and Jodi are coming, you know with bronco problems and gas prices, I don't know about Kelly and Natelie, but right now it's me and my family.

After thinking about it for awhile I remembered where there are a couple of decent camping spots up the S. Moberly road. There will likely be quite a few moose hunters out there so some of the camp spots I have in mind will likely be taken. There are a couple places beside the Moberly River. When Hayley said it's private land, it's not. It's all crown land out there so we can basically go wherever we want. We can go to Pete Lake (were you there that time we were fishing there? I can't remember - it's been a long time since I've been up there. I just hope I can find the trailhead still). Hope you don't mind backtracking and exploring a bit ;)

Bring a fishing pole and you might be able to catch some grayling. I'll bring my defender just in case 'cause there are a lot of grizzlies where we're going to go. Least there were when we worked up there a few years back.

Maybe bring your axe if you don't mind (otherwise I can bring Ray's) in case there are trees down across the trail. Let me know if you want me to bring my chainsaw. I'll bring some of the wood from my garage because it's scarce that high up and what may be there could be really wet after all the rain we've had. Do you have any decent sized tarps? I think I have a couple of smaller ones (the ones I used on Mr. G. and Orange earlier this summer).

Anyway, it should be fun.

My chainsaw is a perminent tool in my wheeling kit now, I don't go home without it, it has saved us many times. same with the axe. I might buy an extra tarp, but I do have three, so I should be ok anyway.

I almost always bring the fishing rod now (although I don't always use it).

And I always like back tracking and exploring, it's part of wheelin.
