This morning it was 20F degrees and when I went out to my car, both headlight washers were open about 1/4 inch. I haven't used them in months and when I tried to use them (headlights on, pushed button) no fluid came out and the housing did not move out or back in. Is it just frozen open? Would the cold temps make it push itself open overnight? Has anyone had this issue before?

Water expands as it freezes so your washers are just acting as a expansion relief. This is not good for the wiper system.

Solution is to replace the washer fluid with a lower freezing point formulation. Or add 99% isopropyl alcohol to the tank to lower the freezing point.

A friend does distillation so we add the first runnings to the wiper fluid. Gives the vehicle that fresh scotch smell.

We all thought mice chewing our wiring was a problem. Wait til the guy slumped on the street corner gets a whiff of this..
