Yeah, about 6-7 years ago. I did find the manifold. Has a broken bolt in it but could be extracted. Let me know

I'm thinking pretty seriously about the header route. Thanks again for the offer. I think I'm going to stay away from trying to restore old parts on this one. I want to get it right--get it done.

I would appreciate any and all advice on getting a header in place. I've read a good bit on MUD. There is some disagreement as there usually is. Whats the best way to avoid leaks when installing? Also, what are the advantages of the Man-a-fre ceramic coated vs a normal 6 - 1 header from them? Is the TPI4 header as good as the MAF 6 into 1?

Call Bob at TPI and he will steer you the right direction. We put 2 of the metal Toyota gaskets and some ultra high temp silicone on Tony's I think. I'll Have to check. No problems with that install. I think the header TPI sells is the same one as Mana-fre. Tell Bob you are from CLC. (I'm trying to get him to sive us something for the raffle).

Thanks alot. I'll be contacting them tommorrow. I'm going ahead with the header. Can you recommend a good muffler shop?

I'll go with you when its time to go to the muffler shop. I know the folks at Burt's Masterbend in brandon. They are the best, and have good prices. I need to talk to them about sponsorship of the club.

whazaaaap...yankee foreigner boy here...

One thing from my limited experience with header I can say....the '40's come with bolts that you use to screw the headers into the engine block...it you switch those to the double sided bolts and then secure the header with a nut...it makes a much better seal...does that make sence?!
even i was able to get the header on with a single metal gasket, no sealant and had no leaks.

how dawg...I'm giving advice now!

OK. Thanks doood.

Now, whatsa double sided bolt? Do you mean stud--thread on both ends? Why would these seal up better. The guy at TPI also said not to mess with sealant or two gaskets.

Did you install you header all by yourself?

EZ...i'm sensetive!

yeh...I installed it bymyself...i'm not sure way it works better but it does (the stud with threads on both sides)...i guess you can tighten it better or something.

My header arrived. Beautiful, shiny thing with lots of pipes. My sons and I discovered it can be used as a wind instrument. We are considering starting a band. You get a different pitch for each pipe. Not sure how to get it on the truck.

I have pulled the manifold back off and a good bit of the smog equipment. Can anyone tell me if the EGR cooler is supposed to be removed from the block?

Quit blowin' your beautiful header and get that thing installed!

Did you find any more info on the bolt vs stud and nut install?

Check Mud by searching "desmog", "FJ60 desmog", or "2F desmog". Jim Chenowith is one of the gurus of the desmog process.

Good luck

progress, or liberation theology

Today, with a profound sense of freedom and release, I removed all of my emissions gizmos and set them in a cardboard box. For the first time I can actually see what the drivers side of my engine looks like. Now there is tons of space for working on powersteering pumps, carburators, brake cylinders and anything else one can think of on that side of the motor. (mods?) As I write, the rust encrusted muffler fittings are soaking in PB blaster and awaiting removal and a new tail pipe to be attatched to the header.

Stay tuned, same time, same channel for further updates of a continuing
major transformation near you.

Desmogging is fun.

Intense gratitude to Brian for asnwering a bunch of questions on the phone this morning.

Don't forget to come by for a  and donate to the Bodean Silver Star campaign.

The donation sounds like a great idea. I'm thinking about putting on one of those vest and taking up money at the stop light. At the rate I am going, i won't make the Crawl!
