Ciaran just got my turbo rebuild, there was a piece of exhaust gasket stuck in the turbo housing, see pics.

TURBO IMPELLER WHEEL - a photoset on Flickr

Since the engine was rebuild at one point in its life, I hope it happened when the manifold was pulled away from the engine. Also, take a look at the gasket that was installed incorrectly.
The impaler wheel will be my new paint mixing tool when attached to a drill.
I hope there is no more hidden surprises. Lets do a day trip asap.

Ouch!
I guess you don't want anything falling into something that's spinning at 5000 RPM's.
GG

They spin up to 55,000 rpm on our trucks (some turbos go up to 150,000 rpm). The high pitch whistle is heard only at the begging of acceleration then it gets out of our hearing range.

Tyee gives no warranty by default, but maybe some might be bought. vehicles are sold as they come from Japan having only passed the inspection and undergone the necessary repairs.
However, to be sure talk with Grant.

you let that go too long with out inspecting the turbo for play. The only reason it looks like that is cause the bushing wore to the point the turbine touched the housing. It's easy to over look it.

But I would recommend checking it out every second oil change.

Now with the new turbo practice letting it cool down before shutting the truck down. It will make it last for a lot longer.

Glad it didn't take out your engine.

Looks similar to what happened to mine.
Not the bent piece on the floor in front.

Cheers,
n.

I thought it was piece of blade....... by looking at the pic. I re-read it and noticed you said exhaust gasket. What does the exhaust gasket look like on a 1hd-t? That looks far to solid to be an exhaust gasket.

I am only giving an opinion based on pictures etc... I don't know the whole story etc. So please don't be offended by any of my guesses and points I make :)

I inspect lots of fod(foreign object damage) damage on turbines with aircraft. Your pictures mke me want to see the housing for investigation. To see if the tips wore into the housing material first. Before it cascaded.
