Hello, cruiser heads.

back in oct someone tried to break into my rig outside of costco, my guess is that they put a screw driver thru the driver’s side door lock breaking the barrel assambly (c clip and barrel part holding onto the c clip) making impossible to even put the key in all the way.
i tried to do my homework but seems as i have to buy a whole new key set from japan (900 bucks plus installation) just so i don’t have to have 2 different keys.
went to icbc today followed by a collision shop and seems like insurance is only responsible for the one lock therefore won’t buy the whole set and leaving me with 2 keys (one for ignition and one for the door). the collision shop basically said “we can’t do this”. so I’m stuck in a s***ty spot.
what would you recommend and what would you do? :bang:

Lineman, can you explain a bit more? Is it the same idea as rekeying?

I guess I'd have to buy a lock and hope they can.

Wtf is up with insurance though? Am I the only one tht thinks that's whacked?

I had to get my 60 re keyed years ago, and had success with these guys http://www.broadwaylocksmith.ca/index.php . They are near Cambie on Broadway in Van. I recall it took them a while to get the tumblers in,but they did a good job.

Got broken into last Friday and same thing happened, Called Sheldon (70sguy) pick up a used cylinder, and went over to broadway locksmith and got them to match my key, a day off work and 107$ in total later it works like a charm!

I didn't see this but these are the guys, it took them less than an hour from walking in there to coming back. Great guys to deal with!

If you're in vic there used to be a proper locksmith on burnside. Old guy who seemed to know what was going on. I'd guess he probably could help you out if you had a cylinder to re-key.

He's still there. Hubers lock and safe. Good People.

Thanks a million. New key lock it's on its way and then off to hubber's for him to rekey it with the old lock.

I got an used one from G&S. as usual it got to my place right away.
I'll be bringing the original one and the one I just bought and hopefully they can just use all the pieces from my original/busted one.
The old one does have a bunch of numbers stamped into it but I'm pretty sure Toyota won't just sell me a single barrel. At least Toyota Japan wouldn't due to security reasons. They wanted the whole kit for $900 bucks.

Or just buy the one from Sheldon for a fraction of the cost.....

But yeah Yan is good people!

So just took both barrels to hubers. He had it rekeyed in less than an hour.
Sure enough, the lock was badly damaged but I'm back in business for less than 100 bucks.
Thanks for all the advice.

Good to hear it all worked out... you can mail the other $800 to me :hillbilly:

... Or buy a winch or a locker or something

Correction.

Next time I'm taking them straight to price's. their rekeyed fee is alot cheaper than hubbers and they have the wafers in order to do it properly.
