Lx 450 and 80 series 93 to 97 use the same parts,100 series pads needs trimming, you may not be able to use the shims.

This is good info. The 100 series pads "trimming" meaning just surfacing off some of the friction material? is the actuall backing plate of the pad the same? I am purchasing all oem parts when doing this as i have heard there has been problems with fitment on aftermarket parts. Or should i just but some EBC or hawk FZJ pads?

ok well have upgraded the brakes on my 91 model 1hdt 80 series here in oz. in oz the brakes where changed late 92 onwards. and the 80's then ran 16inch rims. all i did was get calipers and backing plates for the front from post 92 model and just backing plates for the rear from post 92 model. i got new rotors all round to suit post 92 model. the rear calipers are the same it is just the backing plate that is different which moves the caliper mounting point out further. where as the front calipers have longer mounting points. just got pads from a 105 series here in oz nut belive 100 series front pads are the same. no trimming required just dont fit the brake pad backing plate, vibration plate, anti rattle plate what ever it is called. rear pads and handbrake shoes to suit post 92 model. not sure what 80 series my calipers and backing plates come from here in oz no different between petrol and diesel as far as i know.

I just adjusted the rod that comes out of my LSPV today and noticed a significant improvement in my braking. Should have done it when I put the 2.5" lift in, but didn't think it was going to make much of a difference. I've got the usual drums in a NA 80 series.

Hi Stone,
The 93 and up has rear disc.

I squeezed 100 series pads into my small ('91) calipers. You don't need to make the friction surface thinner, but you need to trim down the backing plate. I just put the original pad on top of the new one and traced the shape, then shaved it off with a grinder (wear a respirator for this!!). Note that the inner and outer pads have a slightly different shape and that's important.

Had I known when I did my fronts that upgrading to the larger rotors etc was pretty straight forward I would have done the full upgrade for sure.

The inner and outer pads are different?? Wow id expect something like that from a chev or dodge but not toyota. Ill make sure i order the 100 series pads then. I have been slowly accumulating all the parts needed to do the FZJ conversion, have the new backing plates and rotors. Just need the calipers and pads now. I was thinking about trimming the backing plates , but after getting aquatinted with the boys at 1STtoyota i will be doing everything 100% from now on.

I ordered FJ80 Hawk brake pads for my HDJ81 and they fit no problem. I like my 15" rims so I didn't want to do the bigger roter upgrade. The Hawk pads are better than stock and will do for now.

I just finished this BIG brake upgrade and it is way better then stock. I did buy used calipers cost me 200 shipped and bought new rotors and brakes from https://www.1sttoyotaparts.com. I cut my backing plates instead of getting new.

If anyone is going to do a front axle rebuild this is a great time to spend alitte extra and do the brake up grade, that's what I did and it was simple.

cheers

Hi Stone,
The 93 and up has rear disc.

Will 15 inch rims fit over the lexus brakes or did you need 16's?

Ok this is partly to Legend and the rest here to see if I got this right. Legend what rims are you running on your 91 80 series that you upgraded with 92+ parts? If I have been following this correctly the early 92 rotors and calipers are larger than the pre 91 stuff. If I have this right the early 92 80s ran on 15 inch rims and also had larger rotors and calipers than the pre 92 80s, did I get this right? I ask because I am upgrading the rear discs on my 40 with almost all 80 series parts. The problem is that I run 15 inch rims and wasn´t aware that any 80 series calipers and rotors would work with 15 inch rims. Any help clearing this up would be great.
Thanks,
John

Did you guys with the earlier models get the semi floating rear axle? If that's the case will you be able to upgrade the rear brakes easily or will you need to change the axle for the full floater type?

regards

Dave

Again, will the above work with 15 inch rims? Or am I lef with 91- smaller calipers?
Thanks

You will need 16" rims for this upgrade.
