I think I have decided I am going to run five lug hubs.

I will run these front and rear. No real reason, ya they are a bit beefier but that’s not really my reason. I been wheeling for decades and the only thing I ever broke was an FJ60 birf. So it’s not like I am worried about breaking anything I just like doing stuff like this. It’s fun and cool to me. So, 79/105 hubs front and rear. That is also going to require some other upgrades but I think I have most of that worked out too, it’s just money. 🙄

Cheers

Also, I am going to keep my 80 pretty low lift, 35’s as big as I will run on it. It’s more my DD, road trip and camping truck. I am pretty far along with it other than a bunch of expensive bolt ons. 🙄

The PigPen is meant to be more hardcore off roading. Odd right, considering I am sticking with a manual trans. 😂

This was manual trans, I got used to that in the rocks.

It was diesel too which is a bit different than a gasser when it comes to low down idle/power ect. And who knows, maybe someday I will put the 750 behind the FT, that is certainly the route I would go if I hate the manual but love the Cruiser.

I am also not going to go down the path with this Cruiser that leads to trailer queen. Been there and done that...

So how it handles on the road is important to me. I think for a dedicated off roader or crawler these days I would just go mini truck , I do miss having a truck though that is more than just my camping rig.

Cheers

Interesting that your going to 5 lug nuts. There was a fair amount of kick back here in aus when toyota changed to them. I remember toyota doing a bit of a write up about it which said that basically the 5 lug nut system was a considerable amount stronger than the 6 lug nuts. From an engineering perspective, toyota are right. I reckon you have made a good decision 👍

There's a very limited selection of wheels that suit the 5 lug pattern in Australia. I don't tthink its a lug/PCD pattern that's common with much else in the Aussie market really. Not sure about USA market.

Once you go to Raceline, Walker Evans ect there are lots of options. Pretty sure SCS makes some good ones as well. I can always run 100 wheels, 105 steelies, 79 steelies, ect.

Yeah, I figured after I posted, there's be stuff you could have custom machined no doubt.

The OEM 105 steelies are (were about 2yrs ago?) still available new from toyota at a really good price.

They are a pretty stout wheel.
I was going to get a new set for my 105 and weeks bead locks onto them

So what started out as a let’s see if it is available and what I can get it for (new bare FT head) turned into an around the world hunt. Middle East, no go. Japan, no go. Finally as a last ditch effort, Australia. What do you know, their DEPO has it on the shelf and man that is a solid price! I wasn’t really planning to buy it yet but since it seems hard to get, I found one and the price is good, why not!? 🙄

So ya, new FT bare head in the works thanks to an Aussie mate who I will leave nameless. Not sure these guys want to start getting hassled for parts from all you kooks on the forum! 😝😂

Oh ya, I bought some 105/79 rear hubs, stock was looking limited so figured I better grab them. Now to track down some fronts.

See if I can’t find some weekend in the next month or so to get the PigPen in the shop. I would like to clean it up more and strip it down more and get all its parts out of the back. Shelve what I want, sell or toss the rest.

Cheers

If you want to run stock oem 100, 200 or Tundra wheels, you'll have to use wheel spacers, b/c of the +60 offset.

As I finish up this conversion, I'm realising more and more how pointless, and a waste of money it is...

I got oem 105's arriving next week. 😅

So I pickup up an aftermarket turbo. Really no idea on specs but @joekatana ran it and said it was the goods. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I also picked up a set of 79-series front bench seats, new. I measured them and they will fit although I will need to build my own console which will be small. They are cloth and real comfy to me plus being a Ute I want to run bench seats. Seems appropriate.

Just going to keep acquiring parts for awhile as I can afford.

Cheers

Is that the turbo that was on the Wink 4x4 FT(E) ? That ran great indeed in combination with the front mounted ic.

Another big pile of mud to clean up that came out of it. This is pile number three or four and hopefully is the last big pile to clean up.
