I was waiting on getting a lift, and did so last week. The lift it installed and the truck on it, so we are about to start this, but right now i have too much work to finish at the shop and we might start next week.

Keep us posted! Thanks for leading the way on this transplant. I want to do my 2000 one day!

We are tied up right now testing equipment for customer.
I still hope it gets done and finish for Christmas.

I will post when I have something to post.

Are you waiting on me before you start yours?

Any updates? Is it done?

I wish. I just want to know that it is possible and the steps involved. This is on my to do list in the next 10 years or so.

FINALLY

Things will get going pretty fast for the next 2 weeks.

Today we cleaned up the area made ourself tons of space and were able to remove a few things!

Already notice something. The UZJ100 only has one battery tray bottom plate welded to the body. So we are going to have to drill the spot weld from the Right side battery tray plate to have ti welded to the UZJ frame. I hope this is going to be the only welding we have to do, will see.

I am subscribed. This is great news.

Check this for a second battery in a UZJ100.

Hey, wonderfull... I wanted to do the same, a friend in France already find a green rolled hdj100 (yes, true) at the shop he usually go but I decided it's a too difficult project for me cause I don't have an indoor place to work... (then I bought a golf sw tdi to work :crybaby: )

Remember to keep the hdj display board... doing so, the ext temp will be displayed in Celcius.

I have some contacts and friends in the french HDJ100 world... it would be a pleasure to help you if needed.
BTW, have to search for but I guess I have the engine manual and maybe more ...;)

So you will take the entire body and interior from the UZJ and transplant it to the HDJ?

The 1HD-FTE engine will be transplanted into a US Spec UZJ100 with a US VIN code. The half cut is the diesel donor.

There are alot of differences in the cluster, mainly the km vs miles. It is not a option it must be swap also...

Can the engine/tran/tc come out in one piece going up? i'll pm Christo

EDIT: thanks Christo!

I spoke about the ext. temperature display... the setup F/C is done by the electronic board behind.
I guess the mile/KM depend on the ECU, and your are going to keep the one from the diesel, so...

Any updates? I am trying not to ask every 10 seconds but this is great stuff!

Not much, we are about ready to pull the drive train out, but we have decided to unload the rear, by removing the rear axle, fuel tank to try to even out the weight when we remove the engine, since it is on the lift. Even tho we are going to strap the truck frame on the lift leg we don't want to flip the truck backward.

So monday we remove the axles, fuel tank, front cross member, front suspension. Tuesday the engine should come out. Wednesday i hope we are going to start looking at wiring harness and what we need to swap inside the truck.

Once the underside of truck is removed from every part i'm swaping i will be pressure washing the underside and covering the frame and underbody with a good undercoating. Probably this product.

Since we take good care of puting bolt we remove back on there nut, spraying shouldn't cause us futur problem.

This is going to be my truck for the next 10 year so while everything is removed i would be stupid not doing this, with the salt on the road here. I also notice 2 rust spot being the rear wheel, seems like water gets trapped in the rear fender.

I also need to start looking for some parts, under the hood they recommand replacing timing belt and injector tubes every 150000km. Pretty weird for the injector pipe, but since i want to have my injector cleaned and checked i will replace them also. SO my shopping list looks like this;

- Timing belt
- injector pipe
- Fuel filter
- oil filter
- Engine oil

So that is the plan for next week.

DECISION

I also notice that the UZJ100 has 2x A/C, the HDJ only one. The compressor do not look like they are the same. I wonder if the compressor from the 1hd-fte could drive both a/c of the UZJ. Even if it could, i need to see if after replacing wiring harness i can still operate the rear AC. Worse case i will simply disable the rear AC of the UZJ, anyhow who really use the rear AC, the front seem to be very good.

I guess you can combine hdj and UZJ AC ... both system don't use the same swith on the dash and the place is free for the other on each dash.
in french, to be more accurate: L'emplacement du swith utilisé sur le HDJ est libre sur le UZJ, et vice et versa.
but, rear ac pipes are a big trouble... some of us had them fixed... mine held gas for 1 month and leak again, probably at another seal (not available) and I read I'm not the only one
I lost 950$ ...
Dual AC was great when driving in California or Arizona... 95% of the time, the front only is enough in Québec... except if you gonna use the third row.
