Hi,

A question: my mechanic warned me not to use the rear diff lock as they're known to get stuck and block you from using the car and repairing/replacing is a big problem on these. Is this correct? Is there a way to verify if it is still operable without getting stuck?

No, they are more likely to fail in the open position (ie unlocked). Engage to see if it works still per normal operation.

I have a failing actuator, they fail in the open position, just have it pulled and exersised and lube it. they get dry and slow

Is it absolutely sure that they fail in the open position. My mechanic seems to suggest otherwise.

Worst case, remove the actuator and slide the sleeve back to free the axles. Then figure out if the actuator 'actuates' or not. You might jack up one side and rotate the wheel back and forth while you disengage the locker a few times, to see if that frees it.
