I need to buy a HD (1080) video cam that would allow me to download live streaming in full HD to a computer via USB (not firewire), preferably while still recording to an SD card. I had assumed this was a common feature for cams but this is apparently not so obvious and I'm not getting very good info on this. Camera has to have a good optical zoom too. This is for indoor use. Need to stay in the consumer model price range, not pro.
Thoughts on the issue of USB live streaming in general or even suggestion for a good specific model?
Also, what is the best video format to aim for these days in HD? I was looking at some AVCHD cams but seems like that format is still less than fully compatible with a lot of what's out there. Formats to get or stay away from to ensure future compatibility?
TIA
added: well, I talked to Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic and none of them has any camcorder that can do live HD streaming via USB from what they told me. Odd, cuz my old miniDV could do live streaming via both USB and Firewire. Maybe just too much data to transfer via USB when in HD? Apparently, most can do live streaming via HDMI though. So to get live images into a computer I may need to do some video capture from HDMI to USB if there is such hardware. Dang...
