turned your key off and the engine keeps running? What's easier on a 22R.....stalling it using the brake and clutch or pulling the negative off the battery terminal to kill the motor?

Any idea what causes this? I think my ignition switch is going/gone, but could somthing else be happening? Any help would be appreciated.

On another note, my head gasket is now blown again.

MODS, can you move this to the 79-95 Truck section. Sorry.

Is the engine actually running, or is it just turning over? If it is just turning over, then the problem is likely the starter contacts. If it is still running, your problem is either the ignition switch or the fuel shut off solenoid.... or both.

What happened to your headgasket???

The engine is actually running, as if the key were still on.

When I bought the truck, it had a newly reman 22R in it.......0 miles. I put on 25K and blew the lower rad hose on I-90. I looked down and it was redlined.......pulled over at the closest exit and filled her back up with antifreeze and H2O, got cooled down and replaced hoses. The head was warped and she ate antifreeze following that. Went thru the entire motor. Bored it .030, new rings, rods, etc, etc......and it started loosing antifreeze again approx 6 months later. Just had it sniffed and there's exhaust in the antifreeze, but none in the oil. It hasn't overheated since the rebuild, so I have no idea how it happened this time, other than I had a backyard mechanic do most of the work while I was in Colorado this past summer. I'm gonna get the job done right this time (that'll hurt the pocketbook).

No more input on this? What about the HG? What could cause this?

Did you get the head retorqued after 200-500 miles??

Yep

Was the head pressure tested? Hot engine + cold water can = cracked head :(

Not sure if he pressure tested it or not, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened the first time....Hot + cold = bad.

I'm debating driving it until it explodes and then doing a 4.3L V6 conversion into it. Any thoughts on that? Will the 22R EVER quit running (I've seen the hilux vid).....

It might be that the head just wasn't surfaced correctly or it wasn't torqued down in the right sequence. It might be as easy as just have the head shaved a little, unless it was already shaved and you can't go any more with it. Another thing is that the deck may need to be surfaced as well. I've seen it when everything was checked except the deck and the hg would leak. It's too bad because your truck is badass. Although it might be even more boss with a 4.3. I still wish I could have come up with the cashola to buy it...

Thanks, AJ. I want to do the 4.3, but it's gonna take some $$$ to do it right, but about 1/4 of the cost to rebuild the 22R again. :frown: If I start saving my pennies now, I'll probably have enough by the time the 22R takes a big crap on me. OH, decisions, decisions...........

Pull the vac line off the AAP it's a triangle shaped thing on the front of the valve cover side of the carb, if there's gas in it, the diaphram has ripped and that was what caused my 22R to diesel.

Good to know!! I'll check that ASAP. Thanks!!!!!!!!
