Has anyone used "Mountain" brand brake rotors?

I only use Brokeback Mountain rotors. ;p

Sheeesh Tinkerer: You have 91K on original rotors and pads...and your pads still have useable life? Must spend a significant portion of your travel time on highways. I guess congratulations are in order!

When my LC was bone stock it seemed the brakes were OK. But since I have added additional and significant weight along with larger tires the stopping power is still adequate by all means but still leaves me thinking it could be better. Especially going down long mountain passes...fading is an issue. However to be honest I don't actually know, since I bought my LC with 69K on it, if the pads are OEM or not.

You are correct in stating Toyota is more than competent from an engineering standpoint. However I doubt if their design criteria included larger tires, bumpers, drawers, recovery gear, winches, etc....

I have had personal experiences with other vehicles and undersized/inadequate front rotor/caliper systems: Saab 9000 and Audi A6 V8. Having tried different set-ups on these the only thing that cured their brake woes was the cold cured rotors. And FWIW I don't like having rotors turned either...

Actually, I probably drive a pretty typical mix of highway and non-highway. But I don't go offroad much, and my LX is bone-stock, so my brakes probably don't get the excessive severe service that many IH8MUD folks enjoy.

(Also, I practice "holistic economy" driving. And if not for my wife driving the LX for the first few years of its life, my rear brakes would still have lots of original pad left too. Oddly, I take about the same 20 minutes, to complete a 20 minute cross-town trip, as everyone else making that trip - but my brakes last a lot longer. I wonder why [chuckle] ?)

So, maybe my experience does not apply. Dunno.

But the warnings about turning rotors still apply.
