Cool...

Does Slee do pre-purchase evaluations of 80's I might want to buy? I have a great Honda/Toyota mechanic, but it would be nice if someone who speacilizes in Land Cruisers can take a look. If I don't buy it, I will email you ASAP.

Hey there everyone, f'n newbie here. I am worse than the usual newbie, I drive a Jeep. Actually, I am selling the Jeep to make room for a carseat for the new baby, and in my research, I came across the Land Cruiser, and I have been hooked. I can't wait to find my new rig. I am replying to this message because I have a chance to buy a '96 with lockers and the supercharger. It alsa has a 2.5" OME lift, Thule roof rack, ARB bumpers, new tires, etc for about $10k. The only problem is 170k miles. That seems high for the price, but the super charger, lift, racks, bumpers would probably cost $4-5k alone. Any thoughts from the experts?? Is the supercharger worth it, or is it more of a hassle? Thanks! Hope to see some of you offroad in Colorado.

Denver
2000 Jeep :censor:

Was your Jeep highly modified? If so, you know that even a relatively light vehicle with serious mods (even including low diff gears) and an auto tranny becomes an absolute pig in the High Country. I'm not sure I'd buy an 80 that I intended to signifcantly modify without a super charger unless you were getting a major deal in another area. That's a pricey mod and one that is worth some major consideration if you are talking $10K on this rig.

If this one had been locked front and rear I'd have probably taken the perceived risk on the extra mileage.

nope

My Jeep is pretty much stock, but with the larger tire package and a Dana 44 rear. I mainly use it for 'expedition' type trails to get to camping and hiking spots and cool places. I am driving it tonight, we will see. The pics look nice...

crap.

I drove it, and now I HAVE to have a supercharger. Much better response and power, especially here in Denver. I will have to search the archives and see how hard it is to install and how $$$. It was nice, especially for 170k miles, but the lockers were not factory, the original owner threw on just a rear locker from a junker and put in a cheap little switch, and the rear bumper is homemade, and there are a few oil leaks I am concerned about. If it is still available when I get back from my business trip next week, I will take it to Slee and see what they can find...it is so tempting because it has all the stuff I need to do to whatever I buy....SC, OME lift, ARB, bigger tires, etc

ok

OK, I think I am going for it. 50k of the miles were in the last 18 months or so, all highway miles as a sales rep. Not a great choice for all those miles! I hate to think what he spent on gas the last year anf a half. I thought I had the Jeep sold, but the :censor: backed out when he came to pick it up. Oh well. Someone else will get a great deal on a perfect condition, $1k under KBB Jeep. I thought I saw a thread here on stuf to do when you first buy a 80. I searched, but I can't find it. Any ideas? Thanks guys, can't wait to meet some of you here in Denver.
