I've got to tease you some more. In the picture of the Ozark trail 4 person tent it say "+40" not 30. :flipoff2:

Good quality tents are hard to find under $100. One would most certainly have to buy it used.

I'll probably look into the hammock thing but if it's more than a cheap tent then we'll probably go with the tent.

Hammock idea cost me $46 after shipping (2 hammocks).

For 4 people? Yeah right. That's like saying I can get great parts from Autozone.

Prove me wrong: let's see a web link for the tent.
Just drive to COSTCO 79.99 - and as a matter of fact got a Felpro gasket kit at Autozone for a 350 cheaper than my wholesale distributor - who i buy 30 grand in parts from each year!- all options aside I do want the full report/photos of 4 people quality sleeping in a vehicle that can't even fit a sheet of plywood - unless you prove that that you a certified Oompah-Loompahs

$46! Nice!
Good for back-packing too!
That's much cheaper than a tent.

Those Ozark trail and Coleman tents at Wally World and Crapco aren't what I call a tent. I've had two Ozark Trail tents and both of them were junk. They didn't even last through the back yard trials. This is one situation where the cliche "you get what you pay for" is true.

You know what; you're right about Autozone. I remember now the company who sold me crap a couple times. Rock Auto. I ordered a bunch of stuff from them to fix up my wife's car. They sold me a shock that didn't work, some spark plugs that wouldn't fire, a fuel pump strainer that was for a different car (but was in a box labeled with correct part #), a fuel pump that was made like 20 years ago. Anyway...I digest.

Good job on the hammocks!! I'm leaving now to force the wife into the cruiser to see how she fits laying down.

Pack up nicely too!

Decided to pull one of the middle seats and take measurements of the space available in the back of the 80. I moved the front seats all the way forward and it looks like there is almost exactly 7 feet from the back of the front seats to the rear tailgate (tailgate in closed position), I then went to Target and got a Coleman air mattress that fits nicely. Total floor area (of the 80) is about 44" x 84" (center console uses up a few inches on one end). Air mattress measures 75" x 41".

UPDATE...

Well, it turned out to be a 9000 mile (5 week) road trip and we did camp inside the Cruiser a few times. The hammocks worked well for the two kids. My wife and I slept on an air mattress. I made some magnetic window screens which allowed us to have the windows down. The kids love the hammocks and the they worked as well as I hoped.

We took out the middle row seat for the trip, which gave the kids a nice large area to stretch out in and plenty of room for our gear. We also brought a tent and slept in that occasionally as well. The nice thing about sleeping in the tent (weather permitting) is that you don't have to unload all your gear from inside the vehicle every night (plus its nice and roomy).

Overall though, we slept in hotels much more than we camped (this pleased :princess:)
The kids were happy anywhere :)
