That should work for me, where were you thinking about parking?

Jack

Probably the West parking lot (West of Virginia, across from Raley's). I assume this will be inside the Atlantis? Or maybe a tent in the parking lot?

The swap meet is in the west parking lot.
What about where we usually park for meetings?

About all I can do is window shop, I suspect my recreation budget was consumed when the front diff popped.

7:30ish at the Roundtable sound good?

Works for me, and it will just be a window shop for me as well.

Congrats. I replied to your PM.

I got my license in the mail and of course, they spelled my name wrong, so now I gotta deal with that.

I am now KE7NCK.

Jack

Good deal.

FYI: I e-mailed Matt Ham (who's 7800R you and I saw on test day) and I am going to either meet him for lunch or swing by one day this week and see how his 7800R would fit in my 100. Let me know if this interests you Jack and we can coordinate? FYI: After reading some more reviews I am, if it will fit where I want to put the face unit, going to go with Yaesu 7800R (read some consistent complaints about the Icom fans being noisy and some general mike sound quality issues....and somebody actually measured the output of the 208H and it got no where near their 50w advertised claim (peaked at 35watts)...plus the fact Icom doesn't offer a nice QR mounting bracket for the 208H like Yaesu does for the 7800R. The only consistent complaint I read about the Yaesu: The mike connection is on the right hand side of the face plate...everyone wants it on the left (at least where the DS is on the left side of the vehicle :-))

I would love to meet up, but I am tied to Carson City for the next two weeks, so I am just going to have to live vicariously through your experiences:grinpimp:

That's good to know information about the icom. I guess I will be heading toward the 7800 also. Thanks for gathering the information.

Jack

I may wind up with the 7800 as well, the 8900 is nice but, aside from the cost, may be overkill for my application. One nice thing if we all have the same manufacture of radio we can share set-ups via PC.

Ok FYI...after thinking, rethinking and seeing the 7800R head unit in my LC I decided to go with the smaller Icom IC-208H (with the Comet SBB-2 18" dual band antenna and the Diamond K400C mount for the rear hatch lid). And I learned Velcro offers many different types of hook & loop material including special heat resistent adhesive backed Velcro for automotive use...which I will use for the face-plate mounting.

Sounds like a good choice how did pricing compare between the two units?

You can buy the 7800R for as low as $229.99 (plus the relocation kit); the lowest I could find on the 208H was $254.95. If the 7800R's faceplate/head unit was as small as the 208H (or I was willing to give up a little more space for the dang thing) I would have opted for it...

Hey gang still in Cali but i ordered a hand held its yeasu tri band will get to play with it when i get home hehe right now using my dads hand held and and doing some talking here in Cali. Im prolly gonna end up with the 8900 nice unit and quad band i think tri band at least but gives me a few more options to play with :beer:

Did you get a General class license?

This HAM black cloud keeps on going. I ordered everything from AES in Las Vegas Thursday morning and was told I would have everything on Friday. Well yesterday came and went without a delivery from AES. Spoke to them this A.M.: Long story short: Don't order from AES!

I certainly hope we actually get to witness something positive with this whole HAM experience some day!!

Well no im still Tech class but you do have several bands thatyou can play on and the nice thing about it is that it gives you more options to get ahold of help ive been talkin 2 meter mostly here in Cali but have played with 440 abit as well. One other thing about the 7800 yeasu is that you cant set it up as a repeater and use your handheld to bounce signal off of mobile only the 8800 and 8900 yeasu have that capability just something to to think about and ill hook you guys up with another ham shop to buy from.its called Ham Radio Outlet and you can find them on the web

Dan:cheers::bounce::bounce2:
