That would be cool to have our own repeater, Luke said he would like to have one.

I E-mailed the owner and let him know who we are and what we're about. We'll see what happens. I would love to see that repeater somewhere farther West, there is a HAM hole in Buena Vista. Wonder if it would be worth setting up out there with solar and batteries? Club could sponsor and maintain? Now That would be a worthy cause for some dues money...

Keep us posted on what you hear back.

I am an officer of the Colorado Land Cruisers 4x4 club here in Colorado Springs. We are all getting into the HAM radio usage because it works so well in the back country, We're about 60% now, working on others to get theirs. We do quite a bit of volunteer work with the forest service, mostly abandonded/ stolen vehicle removals. One of our main functions with them is helping out with the Christmas tree area every year, pulling out stuck vehicles, finding lost dogs, and lost people. We always break up on Rampart Range into a North, central, and South regions, and we could never talk region to region with CB technology. The HAM radios have made all the difference. I live in the middle of Woodland Park, so that would be an ideal repeater location for us. Of course there are sevral MARC repeaters up here, we just don't want to tie those up.

Thought I would send you an E-mail and see if the repeater is still available. I took classes in Monument with Bob Witte to get my tech license, need to start studying to get my general.
Not real sure about how to set up a repeater, maybe the general license study will go into the repeaters a little more. Anyway, check out our club website, www.coloradolandcruisers.org ; Hope to hear from you. Luke 306-3519 KD0OGI

E-mail I got back:

Hi Luke,
I am currently working with an extra class HAM on the repeater. I will tell him about your club and being high up in Teller County. Jerry

Not sure what to make of it.

Why not set it up as a mobile repeater? I seem to remember Rising Sun doing something like that. Set it up where ever the club is operating.

And unless the club has finally filed papers, I don't recall it being a 503(c)(3) organization.
